~ Strikeforce veteran Eric Wisely (19-6 MMA, 0-0 UFC) is now a UFC featherweight fighter. Wisely, 27, an Iowa native is 4-1 over his past five fights. Wins have come over notables such as Hermes Franca, Matt Veach and Lance Wipf. Additionally, he’s never been finished in professional competition.
~ The Ultimate Fighter 12 lightweight veteran Aaron “Daywalker” Wilkinson (8-5) won 2 weeks ago in Manchester, England when he submitted (Rear Naked Choke) Danny Welsh at 2:39 of the 1st round. The bout appeared on “Ultimate Cage Championships 10- The X Fighter.”
~ Following a press conference ahead of Friday’s UFC 141 event, UFC president Dana White was joined by the former WEC champion, Miguel Torres. White confirmed that despite the fighter’s release from the promotion earlier this month due to a controversial Twitter message he posted, Torres has rejoined the organization. According to White, Torres donated money to local rape centers and made visits to them as a volunteer. White said he’s also undergone sensitivity classes. “He handled his business like a man,” said White, who claims Torres showed remorse over the situation.
~ WEC veteran Carlo Prater (29-10-1 MMA, 0-0 UFC) officially meets fellow welterweight Erick Silva (13-1 MMA, 1-0 UFC) at next month’s UFC 142 event in Brazil. UFC 142 takes place Jan. 14 at Rio de Janeiro’s HSBC Arena. The night’s main card, including Silva vs. Prater, airs on pay-per-view.
~ Scott Jorgensen (13-4 MMA, 2-0 UFC) and surging Renan Barao (27-1 MMA, 2-0 UFC)
in a key bantamweight battle is set for the main card of UFC 143: Diaz vs. Condit. UFC 143 takes place Feb. 4 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas on Super Bowl weekend. Both men are WEC veterans. Barao is undefeated in his last 27 fights.
