– Sting defeats Big Van Vader to win the King of Cable Tournament
– Ron Simmons defeats Steve Williams (replacing the injured Rick Rude) by DQ to retain the WCW World Title
– Masa Chono defeats The Great Muta to retain the NWA World Title
– The Great Muta wins the Battlebowl, defeating Van Hammer, Danny Spivey, Big Van Vader, Dustin Rhodes, Barry Windham, Steve Williams & Sting

In 1997, WCW Starrcade was held in Washington DC
