Lucha notes: Ultimo Guerrero, La Sombra

Dec 26, 2011 - by Kris Zellner

Ultimo Guerrero was asked last week about the current “crisis” in lucha libre with popularity going down among all the major promotions and he said that the rise of WWE has changed the game a little and speaking for EMLL they have had some departures this year but their goal is to create new stars who can bring the casual fans back in and fill the buildings up again like they used to be. UG said that everything goes in cycles and they are just going through a downward one now but it won’t be long before they will be back on the upswing again.

La Sombra was also asked about the status of lucha libre and said that issues like the economy and the unstableness of the wrestlers and the wrestling in general has driven some fans away as they can’t trust guys showing up on cards anymore due to injuries and just not showing up in general. Sombra said that he plans on being one of the leaders of the new generation movement of bringing the fans back in 2012.
