Alarming Raw rating note regarding the 12/19 main event

The 12/19 Raw main event of WWE champion CM Punk, United States champion Zack Ryder and World Heavyweight champ Daniel Bryan vs. Alberto Del Rio, The Miz and Dolph Ziggler did a 2.67 rating (2.55 for the first half of the match), with the overrun only gaining 59,000 viewers. This may have been the lowest rated main event of a non-holiday Raw show in over a decade.

    @Kid Vicious

    It’s not a “minority of Internet fans” that want Ryder pushed, or do you NOT hear the entire arena going “woo woo woo” and see the sea of Ryder signs at every show?

    The guy, with only 4 or 5 pieces of merchandise, has been in the top 10 sellers for quite some time.

    It’s a business… and if someone is making you tons of money when you have been paying him no attention for months… it means IF you push him, you’re liable to make a LOT MORE.

    @david we can only hope!

    I dare say this is because it’s the same old sh*t we always see….. Maybe a new main eventer would be good? Like to see someone else get a shot at the WWE championship…. Heck, if you’re going to do this, supercena may aswell be champion again -.-

    People need to stop making ridiculous claims that the internet fans only make up 1 percent of WWE’s fan base. That couldn’t be further from the truth and Zack Ryder is a perfect example. I’m not a big fan but people were chanting “We want Ryder” in arenas across the country at ppv’s, Raw, and Smackdown when the guy wasn’t even on tv. When people are chanting a guy’s name during other wrestler’s matches, that’s how you know he’s over. CM Punk and Zack Ryder are 2 of the most over stars in WWE in a long time. I don’t know about Daniel Bryan yet but the guy made himself a huge star in the indies without the WWE marketing machine. Fans at the WWE HOF ceremony were chanting “Best in the World” at him before he was even with the company. If internet fans made up such a small portion of WWE’s fan base, Cena would be cheered every night.

    The Ryder Riders have no taste. Ryder is overratted as he not a good wrestler whereas CM Punk and Daniel Bryan are awesome wrestlers.

    I wonder how many people remember that RAW was doing crappy ratings wise during the initial build of Stone Cold Steve Austin. Imagine if the bookers had the same thought many of the posters here had. Oops, bad ratings, we must end the Stone Cold thing.

    I’m not putting much wieght at all into the ratings, considering it was up against a big time MNF game (which slaughtered everything in its path). MNF was weak the prior two weeks, hence Raw had better ratings.

    And for those calling this a disaster based on one week of ratings….you have proven the depth of your lack of knowledge.

    I can confirm that Ryder gets a lot of love at all the tv tapings. Last month in Boston, we had the Raw supershow and the dark main event was a tag match he wasn’t in and everyone chanted for him so much CM Punk went backstage and brought him out to join in.

    I would guess the overrun has more to do with losing viewers. If the people watching switch to a different show that is starting over watching the end of the match it is considered a loss of viewers.

    Also it’s amusing that now the ratings mean nothing to some. If the rating was high the same people would be saying how these 3 guys = ratings and how the WWE should have listened to the internet community earlier. Instead I hear how the ratings mean nothing and only a few households control the ratings.

    Be honest and admit this main event was not popular. Yes Vince should not be quick to pull the plug on this experiment but if the ratings stay the same or get worse than it’s time to kill this push of who the internet community wants.

    Now they are talking about taking off the belt off cm punk.

    @seanyd93 here is a list of wrestlers that held there 1st WWE Championship since November 2011

    WWE Championship

    1)The Miz
    2)Del Rio
    3)CM Punk
    4)Rey Mysterio

    World Championship

    1)Dolph Ziggler
    3)Mark Henry
    4)Big Show
    5)Daniel Bryan

    The problem is not a new main eventer, that’s 9 World Champions who won these respective championships for the first time. Also, the WWE had a combined 7 1st time winners of the IC and US titles in that same time frame. The numbers were down for one reason only, because RAW was up against MNF. How exactly can you say we have the same thing every week when there has been that many fresh faces. What about the different storylines we had from CM Punk walking out, McMahon out/HHH in, Kane returns with mask, Nexus, Cena/Rock, etc… Regardless of the numbers, this year has been one of the best in a while simply because it’s been different. The ship is starting to right.

    I’ve only one thing to say to you Mr.Nielsen:

    BAH HUMBUG! ;_;

  13. SewageOfYouth says:

    I blame MNF as well. When it comes right down to it, Raw ratings will always suffer compared to MNF. This is nothing new.

  14. Chris James says:

    How much you wanna bet this is enough for McMahon to take the belt off punk and give it to miz?
