~ On Friday at the inaugural RESURRECTION FIGHTING ALLIANCE event, UFC/PRIDE heavyweight veteran Gilbert “The Hurricane” Yvel returned to MMA action by defeating Damian Dantibo (4-2). Yvel won via Submission (Punches) at 3:12 in the first round. Yvel (37-16-1) hadn’t fought since losing at UFC 121. This was his 1st fight at light-heavyweight.
~ PRIDE veteran & occasional pro-wrestler Bob “The Beast” Sapp, 38, competed in MMA on Friday in Dubrovnik, Dubrovnik-Neretva County, Croatia. Sapp was TKO’d (Punches) by Maro Perak (21-3) at 3:04 of the first round. Sapp (11-9) has lost 3 straight & 6 of his last 7 bouts. Sapp has also competed under Kickboxing bouts.
~ The Ultimate Fighter 11 participant Kyacey Uscola competed on Saturday for the Far Eastern Federation of Modern Pankration promotion. Held in Khabarovsk, Khabarovsk Krai, Russia, Uscola was defeated by Andrey Koreshkov via TKO (Punches) at 4:03 into Round 1. Uscola has lost 5 straight bouts to drop his record to 21-21.
~ UFC 93 welterweight participant Alexandre Barros defeated Favio Martino on Saturday in Barra da Tijuca, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil via TKO (Punches) at 3:38 of the 1st round. The bout was main event of “Watch Out Combat Show’s” 17th event. Barros suffered a TKO loss to Martin Kampmann at UFC 93 back on January 17, 2009. Barros (19-8) has won 4 straight.
~ Japanese notable and recent Bellator fighter Megumi Fujii (24-1 MMA, 0-0 DREAM) and Spanish vet Karla Benitez (6-1 MMA, 0-0 DREAM) are official for the “DREAM: New Year! 2011″ year-end card in a 115-pound bout. The event, officially dubbed “DREAM: Fight for Japan: Genkidesuka!! Oomisoka!! 2011!,” is set for Dec. 31 at Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan.
