~ Antonio Rodrigo “Minotauro” Nogueira will not undergo surgery on his right arm, which was broken by a Frank Mir kimura last Saturday at UFC 140 in Toronto. Nogueira’s brother Rogerio stated “[Dr. Itamura] said he would prefer not to do surgery, that [the bone] will calcify by itself and that in five months, he’s fighting again.” Dr. Itamura prescribed twice-a-day ultrasound therapy and fitted “Big Nog” with a brace.
~ WEC/UFC featherweight veteran Tyler “Thunder” Toner (12-3) will headline Ring of Fire 42: Who’s Next this Saturday in Broomfield, Colorado. He faces Nick Macias (5-2) in the main event. Toner was released by Zuffa, LLC following 2 straight losses.
~ The California State Athletic Commission changed the result of a Nov. 12 bout between Mackens Semerzier (6-3 MMA, 1-0 UFC) and Robert Peralta (15-3 MMA, 1-0 UFC) after it was determined an inadvertent headbutt was responsible for ending the UFC on FOX contest in Anaheim, Calif. Per the CSAC’s regulations, it’s at the referee’s sole discretion to request an on-site review of a fight using the commission’s video monitors placed outside the cage or ring, if they are available.
~ Veteran referee Mario Yamasaki has been assigned to the Alistair Overeem vs. Brock Lesnar fight while Patricia Morse-Jarman, Glenn Trowbridge and Doug Crosby will judge the UFC 141 main event.
~ It’s official. Former PRIDE heavyweight champion Fedor Emelianenko (32-4) faces Olympic gold medalist Satoshi Ishii (4-1-1) at DREAM’s final card of the year. “DREAM: Fight for Japan: Genkidesuka!! Oomisoka!! 2011!” (also dubbed “DREAM: New Year! 2011″) is set for Dec. 31 at Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan.
