~ UFC lightweight veteran Curt “The War” Warburton (8-3) got back on the win column on Saturday when he defeated Tim Newman via unanimous decision. The bout was part of BAMMA’s 8th event in Nottingham, England. Warburton went 1-2 with the UFC & was released following a submission loss to Joe Lauzon.
~ Fans are invited to Thursday’s “Strikeforce: Melendez vs. Masvidal” press conference in San Diego, Calif. The fan and media gathering, which previews Saturday’s Showtime-broadcast event, takes place at Seau’s The Restaurant, which is located at 1640 Camino Del Rio North #1376 in San Diego. Saturday’s fight card takes place at the nearby Valley View Casino Center. The event begins at 4 p.m. ET (1 p.m. PT local time).
~ Tickets for February’s UFC 143 event, which features an interim welterweight title bout between former Strikeforce champ Nick Diaz (26-7 MMA, 7-4 UFC) and former WEC titleholder Carlos Condit (27-5 MMA, 4-1 UFC), go on sale to the general public on Friday, though a pre-sale period begins on Wednesday. UFC Fight Club members can purchase tickets on Wednesday beginning at 1 p.m. ET (10 a.m. PT local time).
~ A little more information regarding Alistair Overeem receiving clearance to compete, as reported by Steve. The Nevada State Athletic Commission granted Overeem a conditional license to face Lesnar on Dec. 30, subject to a pre-fight drug test to be submitted in Europe within the next 72 hours, as well as an additional screen submitted in the U.S. when the Dutch heavyweight arrives for the contest. Overeem’s conditional license also includes two post-fight drug screen orders, to be completed less than six months after the bout. The decision was made during Monday’s NSAC monthly meeting which took place in Las Vegas.
