~ The California State Athletic Commission has confirmed that steroid tests came back clean for this past month’s UFC 139 event. The event took place Nov. 19 at HP Pavilion in San Jose, Calif. Selected fighter were tested, all of which passed.
~ UFC heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos underwent successful surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his left knee on Wednesday morning. Dos Santos sustained the injury in the week prior to his title-winning performance against former champion Cain Velasquez at UFC on Fox 1, which took place Nov. 12 at the Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif. “My knee surgery was great. I’m feeling very well,” the Brazilian big man wrote on Twitter following the surgery, which took place at Albert Einstein Hospital in Sao Paulo. “[I have] no pain and [I’m] just resting a little bit.
~ A lightweight bout between Francisco Drinaldo (10-1) and Alexander Sarnavsky (15-0) has been pulled from the Friday card, and former lightweight champs Jose Figueroa (10-5) and Artiom Damkovsky (9-6) have been promoted to the co-main-event slot. Drinaldo suffered an undisclosed injury. M-1 Challenge 30 takes place Friday at The Hangar at the OC Fair & Event Center in Costa Mesa, Calif.
~ Devin Cole (19-9-1 MMA, 1-2 SF) vs. Gabriel Salinas-Jones (5-0-1 MMA, 1-0 SF) is another addition to Strikeforce’s final event of 2011. “Strikeforce: Melendez vs. Masvidal” takes place Dec. 17 at Valley View Casino Center in San Diego.
~ Ramsey Nijem (5-2 MMA, 1-1 UFC) has suffered an undisclosed injury & has withdrawn from a UFC 141 fight with fellow lightweight Anthony Njokuani (14-5 MMA, 1-1 UFC). UFC 141 takes place Dec. 30 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
