~ UFC lightweight veteran Ronys Torres continued his outstanding winning streak on Saturday in Matosinhos, Portugal for the Cage Fighters promotion. Torres submitted (Armbar) Wanderson Messias in the first round. After Torres (23-4) was released by the UFC in March 2010 after his 2nd loss, he lost again in September 2010. However since that 3 fight losing streak, he’s gone on a tear. winning 9 bouts in a row including now 8 bouts in 2011.
~ UFC lightweight veteran David Lee lost to Dave Hill via submission (Triangle Choke) at 4:24 into the first round on Saturday. The bout occurred at Liverpool, Merseyside, England for the Olympian MMA Championships promotion. Lee (9-8) suffered UFC Rear Naked Choke losses to Tyson Griffin & Junior Assuncao respectively.
~ The manager for Mackens Semerzier is contesting the UFC bantamweight’s TKO loss to Robert Peralta at this past Saturday’s UFC on FOX event. Brian Butler-Au of SuckerPunch Entertainment said that he has filed an appeal with the California State Athletic Commission. Veteran referee “Big” John McCarthy officiated thebout and said he didn’t see an accidental headbutt during the fight that ultimately contributed to its end.
~ A bantamweight bout between Michael McDonald (13-1 MMA, 2-0 UFC) and Alex Soto (6-0-1 MMA, 0-0 UFC) has been promoted to the Spike TV “UFC Prelims” special for this weekend’s UFC 139 event. It’s taken the spot of a middleweight bout between Tom Lawlor (7-3 MMA, 3-2 UFC) and Chris Weidman (6-0 MMA, 2-0 UFC). UFC 139 takes place this Saturday, Nov. 19, at HP Pavilion in San Jose, Calif.
~ Legacy Fighting Championship 9 will go down at the Houston Arena Theater in Houston, Texas on December 16. On the main card, UFC lightweight veteran Paul “Tellys” Kelly (12-4) faces Jeff Rexroad (4-1). Kelly holds a career 5-4 Octagon record.
