UFC on Fox 1: Velasquez vs. Dos Santos

~ A brief video montage showing the history of the Ultimate Fighting Championship, which celebrates its 18th anniversary, is updated with images of the current crop of UFC stars. The arena in Anaheim, California is packed as Curt Menefee discusses the main event bout with UFC President Dana White. More to come after the commercial.
~ Brock Lesnar is now in the broadcast booth. He says “He’s ready, wants to defeat Alistair Overeem in December, and reclaim his UFC Heavyweight title. Footage is shown of Velasquez beating Lesnar last year as Lesnar discusses the advantages of the champ. Lesnar wants Velasquez to win so that he can avenge his defeat. Menefee provides a nice video from the “Primetime” special where Junior Dos Santos prepares for the fight. Commercial.
~ A shot of the arena & the audience welcomes us back as we witness video about Cain Velasquez from the “Primetime” episode. Lesnar speaks about the pressure that Velasquez is facing but has tremendous support from the fans that should help him. Lesnar picks Velasquez to win the fight as we head over Mike Goldberg & Joe Rogan. They hype the fight some more. The rules of the Octagon are reviewed for new viewers as the bout is coming up next!!! Commercial.
~ The actual fight coverage begins at a half hour into the broadcast. Junior Dos Santos looks very calm as makes his way into the Octagon. Cain Velasquez follows with an intense, focused look on his face. The bout is here as we go to a quick 1 minute break. We return & Bruce Buffer completes the introduction of this historic match. Fight begins at 6:39 local time.
~ UFC Heavyweight Championship (5 Minutes for 5 Rounds) w/ John McCarthy as referee:
Cain Velasquez (9-0) vs. Junior “Cigano” Dos Santos (13-1)
Round #1: A straight right lands for Dos Santos who is getting tagged with right low leg kicks. Velasquez catches a leg but can’t complete the takedown. Dos Santos lands an overhand right to the left ear of Velasquez & he’s down!!! Dos Santos unloading left hands but they’re missing as Velasquez tries to turn. He throws right hands, hammerfists as Velasquez tries to escape. McCarthy steps in to halt the bout as Velasquez goes out.
Winner: Junior Dos Santos (14-1) = 1:04 Round 1 via KO (Punches). In the post-fight interview Dos Santos thanks his team for the win. Velasquez vows to regain the belt when he comes back. Commercial.
~ Mike Goldberg & Joe Rogan recap the bout as we go back to Curt Menefee, Dana White, Brock Lesnar in the broadcast booth. They go over the bout, question the strategy employed by Velasquez & why he didn’t go for the takedown. Lesnar now looks forward to his fight with Alistair Overeem in a #1 Contender bout. They remind the audience that UFC 139 goes down next week. The first ever event of the UFC on FOX is a success as the transmission comes to a close.
