~ On Friday, PRIDE welterweight veteran Jose “Pele” Landi-Jons, 38, defeated Samuel Quito via TKO (Doctor Stoppage) at 2:49 of the second round. The bout headlined Kumite MMA Combate in Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. Landi-Jons is now 27-14.
~ Former Deep Lightweight Champion Katsunori Kikuno won last night in Tokyo, Japan when he defeated Kwang Hee Lee via TKO (Retirement) at 4:59 of the first round. The bout occured at Deep- Cage Impact 2011. DREAM veteran Kikuno improved to 16-4-2.
~ Saturday’s “UFC 137: Penn vs. Diaz” event drew a reported 10,313 attendees and generated a live gate of $3.9 million. UFC president Dana White revealed the figures at the evening’s post-event press conference. The reported figure will be verified next week by the Nevada State Athletic Commission.
~ UFC officials recently announced that the often-outspoken Rashad Evans has been tapped for a UFC Fight Club Q&A session prior to November’s UFC 138 event. The gathering takes place on Friday, Nov. 4, prior to the day’s official weigh-ins for “UFC 138: Leben vs. Munoz.” The weigh-ins and Q&A session take place at the nearby National Indoor Arena’s Community Hall. Doors to the event open at 1 p.m. GMT local time (6 a.m. ET), and Evans hits the stage one hour later.
~ Bellator Fighting Championships’ season-five heavyweight-tourney finale between Eric Prindle (9-1 MMA, 3-0 BFC) and Thiago Santos (10-1 MMA, 2-0 BFC) is set for Bellator 59. Bellator 59 takes place Nov. 26 at Caesars Atlantic City in New Jersey. The main card airs on MTV2 (and in high-definition on EPIX) while the prelims stream on Spike.com. The winner of Prindle vs. Santos earns $100,000 in total compensation and a title shot against current champion Cole Konrad.
