WWE SmackDown Recap 28/10/11

by Brad Hoy

WWE SmackDown kicked off with Teddy Long talking about the future of the world title, When Christian came out continued to repeat his one more match speech. This was then preceded by C.M. Punk, who got a big pop from the crowd, Teddy Long announced that the Raw stars were here on SmackDown and after a very good segment; the main event was announced as Punk vs. Christian.

Airboom Vs The Miz & R-Truth

The first match of the night was a relatively successful tag team match with a few good highflying spots from Airboom. However, The Miz & R-Truth predictable went over which I believe we will be seeing a lot more of over the coming weeks prior to Survivor Series. Also by Truth and Miz going over it only deflates the reputation that the Tag team champs have and de-values the Tag titles, which ironically is what the WWE have been trying to push. Nevertheless The Miz and R-Truth got the win via a combined finisher from both athletes.

After the match, Miz and Truth got on the mic’s and cut a promo about their current winning streak. The team made a point that a lot of us were left confused about after Raw; they sated that they must have beaten Cena so bad as he chose the only man who hates him more than they do to face them at Survivor Series. (I beg to differ that the rock is the only man who hates Cena more than Miz and Truth). They continued to state that if Cena and Rocky don’t destroy each other before SS then they will.

A clip which was promoting the Shawn Vs Bret DVD was advertised (I’d defiantly recommend to any wrestling fan). After the clip was show, Mr Money in the bank, Daniel Bryan and Tyson Kidd were seen arguing about who was the best out of Michaels and Hart; as both have their individual connections to the hall of famers. Santino Marella then interrupted the conversation by suggesting why they don’t settle it in the ring.

Backstage, Teddy Long tells Vickie Guerrero, Dolph Ziggler and swagger that Dolph will go one on one with Randy Orton and Swagger is banned from ringside.

Wade Barrett Vs Trent Barreta

Following Wade Barrett’s appearance on Raw, I thought this was the time that the WWE were going to give him another push and was looking forward to see what was going to happen on SmackDown. I then found out he was going to face Trent Barreta and realized that my rather hopeful thought of Barrett getting a push was exactly that; a hopeful thought. There was not really much to say about the match, other than Barreta done the “job” to allow Wade Barrett to get the win.

Randy Orton Vs Dolph Ziggler

This was a great match between two great wrestlers and it just proves once again that Dolph Ziggler deserves a bigger push than he is already getting and I just hope that push will be coming some time soon. Cody Rhodes was on commentary for throughout the match and he was accompanied by his bag men. The match was pretty much flawless and went back and forth between both superstars with close pinfalls and great spots. Dolph went for the ZigZag only for it to be block by Randy who held onto the ropes, the viper then hit Ziggler with an RKO to get the win.

Sin Cara black cuts a promo saying he feels he was disrespected and embarrassed to uncover his identity and that he is now “Hunico”, the only one with a face. Hunico then stated that Sin Cara blue took away something that was here and promises to get payback.

Daniel Bryan Vs Tyson Kidd

this match was good to see, as both wrestlers are clearly very talented and haven’t gotten a push in the WWE; apart from Bryan’s MITB case but the WWE have buried any chance of him winning when he cashes in. I just wonder what it was that these two great wrestlers and possible future main eventers have done to piss the guys off who make the decisions in WWE. Nevertheless, they put on a good match with Bryan getting the win via the LeBell lock.
Michael Cole cut another annoying promo showing more fake pictures of Jim Ross. Cole announced that JR had accepted the challenge that he set last Monday on raw and the rules will revealed this Monday night.

Next the Big Show was in the middle of the ring, he began to talk about how tough the match was at Vengeance and that Mark Henry was the most powerful opponent he has ever fought. Show went on to announce that Teddy Long informed him that he will get a re-match in the near future. Mark Henry then interrupted and began to tell the Big Show that he beat him at vengeance and that there isn’t going to be a re-match. Both athletes teased a fight but Henry backed off.

CM Punk Vs Christian

The two kicked off the main event in a strong way as both superstars demonstrated their wrestling ability, as Punk went for the GTS Del Rio’s music hit and the WWE Champion made his way to ringside, which gave Christian enough time to escape. After some truly great wrestling, they same thing happened to Christian as he went for the spear Sheamus’s music hit which distracted Christian enough to allow Punk to connect with the GTS for the victory. Overall this was another great match which also developed both wrestler individual storylines but without taking away any credibility from the match its self and a great way to close the show.
