WWE Night of Champions PPV Preview and Predictions‏

Sep 18, 2011 - by Steve Gerweck

Hey Gerweck.net readers, this is Joseph Nocera back again to provide my personal insight, along with the previews and predictions for one of the most exciting WWE pay-per-views of the year, Night of Champions. This PPV is taking place this Sunday night at the HSBC Arena in Buffalo, New York. The card features six exciting championship matches along with a no disqualification match. We are going to kick it off with the no disqualification match:

This match is going to be brutal. Two men who don’t like each other going at it with no rules. Ever since Triple H become the Chief Operating Officer of the WWE, C.M. Punk has been disrespecting and been trying to get under the skin of the former 13 time world champion. He has been disrespecting not only Triple H, but also his father-in-law Vince McMahon, who was the former WWE Chairman, as well as Triple H’s wife Stephanie McMahon. This whole feud took a big turn at Summerslam after C.M. Punk became the Undisputed WWE Champion. After Triple H walked away from the ring, Kevin Nash appeared out of no where are attacked C.M. Punk, leaving not only the WWE Universe shocked but also the C.O.O of WWE. After Triple H announced three weeks ago that Punk would face Nash at Night of Champions, Triple H told C.M Punk later on in the night that his match with Nash was cancelled and that he would be going one on one with Triple H. After weeks of verbal confrontations between Punk, Triple H and Nash on episodes on both RAW and Smackdown, Triple H fired Kevin Nash. Later on that night, Triple H announced that the match would be no disqualification and anything goes. C.M. Punk agreed to the match on one condition: If he wins, Triple H must quit as the WWE C.O.O. Triple H agreed to the stipulation. Then this past week on RAW, C.M. Punk dropped the WWE C.O.O by hitting him in the face with a microphone. Triple H has told C.M Punk that he made this whole situation personal and that at Night of Champions, Punk would not be in the ring with the business man, not the WWE C.O.O, not the multiple time world champion, not the game, but he would stepping in the ring with a man who C.M. Punk insulted and a man who is going to kick his ass. C.M. Punk Both men are going to go all out and try to hurt each other badly. With the no disqualification stipulation in place for this match, who knows what is going to happen. I see this match to be pretty even between the two, but I am sensing a Triple H victory. I believe that Kevin Nash will make an appearance in this match and he will shock everyone and attack both Triple H and C.M. Punk. After interference from Nash, Triple H will pull out his trusty sledgehammer and knock C.M. Punk out and pick up the win. This will allow Triple H to win and keep his job as the Chief Operating Officer of the WWE.

Prediction: Triple H wins this match in 26 minutes

I am really looking forward to this match. John Cena has been dying to get his hands on Alberto Del Rio after what went down at Summerslam. At Summerslam, Alberto Del Rio cashed in Money in the Bank and won the WWE Championship, John Cena came out the next night and attacked the Mexican Aristocrat after Del Rio attacked Rey Mysterio after their match. Cena told Del Rio that he was pissed off with Del Rio after he cashed in a briefcase and pretty much ‘stole’ the championship after John Cena and C.M. Punk gave it their all in a great match. He then went on to tell Alberto Del Rio that he was not a real champion and that now he was a target. Then the next week, John Cena defeated C.M. Punk to become number one contender and earn a WWE title match against Del Rio at Night of Champions. Straight after Cena won the match, Alberto came out of no-where and attacked the Cenation leader and left him lying in the ring. Since then, Alberto Del Rio has not wanted to get in John Cena’s way. The next week, Del Rio was no where to be seen. Then two weeks ago after Cena won a eight-man tag team match, Alberto attempted to attack Cena, but failed after Cena hit the WWE Champion with an attitude adjustment. Then this past Monday night on RAW, Cena picked up momentum heading into Night of Champions after himself and WWE Hall of Famer Bret ‘Hitman’ Hart defeated the WWE Champion Del Rio and his personal ring announcer Ricardo Rodriguez in a tag team match. I believe that in this match, Del Rio will try and stay away from Cena at the start but will slowly work his way into getting the advantage. Del Rio will want to slow the match down and try to work on the arm of Cena, while the former 11 time WWE Champion will want to use his offensive flurry to slow down the winner of the 2011 Royal Rumble match. I believe that Alberto Del Rio will retain the WWE Championship this Sunday at Night of Champions. I believe that WWE will give Alberto Del Rio a lengthy championship run and I think that if John Cena were to win the WWE Championship at Night of Champions, it would not make Del Rio look like a great champion. I think that Ricardo Rodriguez will get involved in this match, therefore force the referee to disqualify Alberto Del Rio and give John Cena the victory. But due to the rules in a championship match, the title can not change hands on a DQ or countout, therefore Del Rio will retain the WWE Championship. I see these men possibly having a rematch at the Hell in a Cell pay-per-view in two weeks in a Hell in a Cell match, but we will see what happens this Sunday and what happens Monday night on RAW.

Prediction: John Cena wins by disqualification, therefore Alberto Del Rio retains the WWE Championship in 18 minutes

I personally have been waiting for this match for a while now. Since Mark Henry has arrived on Smackdown he has torn through everybody, including the likes of Kane and Big Show. Since Randy Orton has arrived on Smackdown he has done a lot of great things, including winning two World Heavyweight Championships and having some amazing matches the former two time world champion Christian. Four weeks ago on Smackdown, Mark Henry defeated nineteen other Smackdown superstars in a 20 man over the top rope battle royal where the winner would receive a future World Heavyweight Championship match against Randy Orton. The feud started the next week on Super Smackdown. After Randy Orton defeated Christian in a Steel Cage match to retain the World Heavyweight Championship, Mark Henry came out and attacked the WWE’s Apex Predator, leaving him laying and broken in the middle of the ring. Then the same happened two weeks ago on Smackdown after Orton competed in a match. Then this past Monday night of RAW, Mark Henry cost Randy Orton his match against the current Intercontinental Champion Cody Rhodes after distracting both Orton and the referee. After that match, Henry attacked Orton with a chair. Then this past week on Smackdown after both men had a verbal confrontation on The Cutting Edge, hosted by the 11 time World Heavyweight Champion Edge, Both men went at it and would not stop. It got so out of hand that Teddy Long sent a majority of the Smackdown roster out to the ring to calm them down. But it did not work as Orton and Henry kept on going at it to the point where Henry hit Orton with the world’s strongest slam, and then delivered two devastating splashes to the World Heavyweight Champion. Mark Henry has been on hell of a roll as of late. He has taken apart many superstars including Big Show and Kane, two of the most popular and history-making superstars in the history of WWE. Mark Henry feels like he has had a disappointing career after being in WWE for over 15 years and never getting a World Heavyweight or WWE Championship match. Henry has been on a roll on pay-per-views, defeating Big Show at Money in the Bank and defeating Sheamus by countout at Summerslam. Randy Orton has had a good few weeks, defeating the likes of Cody Rhodes, Heath Slater, Ted DiBiase and Christian. Henry will want to use his strength and size to his edvantage while Orton will want to slow down the big man by targeting body parts. I see a good match here with Randy Orton pulling an RKO out of no-where, getting the three count and retaining the World Heavyweight Championship. Will we see a rematch between these two men? or will we see new challengers for the World Heavyweight Championship? We will see what happens leading up to the Hell in a Cell pay-per-view in two weeks.

Prediction: Randy Orton retains the World Heavyweight Championship in 13 minutes

I really love the idea of this match. All of these men in my mind have what it takes to be United States Champion. Dolph Ziggler has been a great champion and he has taken on every challenge that has been in his way, but now he has to prepare and focus on three different styles heading into Night of Champions. Every superstar has accomplished a lot, lets go through every person: Dolph Ziggler: former World Heavyweight Champion, current U.S Champion, former World Tag Team Champion and former Intercontinental Champion. Jack Swagger: former World Heavyweight Champion, former ECW Champion and former Money in the Bank winner. John Morrison: former five time WWE Tag Team Champion, former ECW World Champion, former Intercontinental Champion and Tough Enough winner. Alex Riley: He is yet to win a championship, but he has been mentored by The Miz and former NXT rookie. This past week on Raw after Alex Riley and John Morrison defeated Dolph Ziggler and Jack Swagger in a tag team match, it was announced that Ziggler would have to put his United States Championship up for grabs against not one, not two but three superstars. Ziggler is yet to face a challenge like this since winning the United States Championship from Kofi Kingston at Capitol Punishment in June. All three challengers have a different style to them. You have John Morrison, who is a high flier and he can use his quickness to his advantage. Alex Riley is a brawler who will use his toughness and rough style to take out the three other competitors in this match. Jack Swagger has an amatuer background which helps him grapple and take down his combatants. It will be interesting to see what impact Vickie Guerrero has on this match, considering what has happened between her, Dolph Ziggler and Jack Swagger. I believe that Alex Riley is a future United States Champion, but not yet. WWE need to establish him more in my mind for him to become a champion. I don’t see John Morrison winning this Sunday either. I believe that Ziggler will have the match in the bag, but Vickie will turn her back on the former World Heavyweight Champion and this will allow Jack Swagger to pick up the victory and win the United States Championship this Sunday in Buffalo at Night of Champions. From here, I see Dolph Ziggler becoming a face and feuding with Swagger for the United States Championship.

Prediction: Jack Swagger wins the United States Championship in 12 minutes

This match will be very interesting to see. At Summerslam last month, Kelly Kelly proved a lot of wrestling critics wrong and she pulled off a huge victory against Beth Phoenix and she proved that she is no fluke champion and that she is more than just a pretty face. Then two weeks ago on RAW, Beth Phoenix defeated Eve Torres to become number one contender and earn another WWE Divas Championship match against Kelly Kelly. This past week on RAW after Kelly Kelly defeated Vickie Guerrero, Beth came out and attempted to get the better of the champion, but Kelly delivered a boot to the face then walked off. Beth picked up some momentum after defeating A.J. two days ago on Friday Night Smackdown. I was very impressed by the match Kelly and Beth had at Summerslam and both women in my mind deserve to be called Divas Champion. This match will be emotional for Beth Phoenix due to the fact that Night of Champions is being held in Beth’s hometown of Buffalo, New York. I believe that Kelly Kelly will have to prove in this match that the win she pulled off at Summerslam was not a fluke and not luck. I believe we are going to see some interference from Natalya in this match but besides the interference, I think that this will be a good Divas match, and we will see Kelly Kelly’s successful Divas Championship reign come to an end at Night of Champions. I am predicting that Beth Phoenix wins this match and become the new WWE Divas Champion. And I believe that Kelly will receive a championship rematch at the Hell in a Cell pay-per-view in two weeks.

Prediction: Beth Phoenix wins the Divas Championship in 6 minutes

First off, I must say that I am personally loving the fact that WWE is starting more attention to the tag team division. I am really looking forward to this tag team match due to the fact that I am a big fan of each person in this match. Kofi Kingston and Evan Bourne won the WWE Tag Team Championship four weeks ago on RAW after defeating the former champions, Michael McGillicutty and David Otunga. Since then, the tag team of Air Boom has been really impressive, defeating teams like McGillicutty and Otunga along with defeating Jinder Mahal and The Great Khali twice in one week. The week after Bourne and Kingston won the championships, R-Truth and The Miz told the WWE Universe and the locker room that they were tired of being overlook and under-utilised by Triple H, who is the C.O.O of the WWE. Then two weeks ago, R-Truth and The Miz put out the challenge to Air Boom for a WWE Tag Team Championship match at Night of Champions in Buffalo. It was announced on RAW that Air Boom accepted the challenge from The Miz and R-Truth. The new team of Awesome Truth picked up a lot of momentum this past week after The Miz defeated Kofi Kingston on RAW and R-Truth picked up a victory against Evan Bourne on Friday Night Smackdown. Both The Miz and R-Truth will want to utilise their in your face, smash mouth style to wear down Air Boom, while the current champions will want to try and use their unique high-flying offence to try and pick up momentum, something that both Bourne and Kofi feed off. I think that this match will be very good to watch and very exciting, and I see Evan Bourne executing Air Bourne on The Miz and picking up a huge victory for Air Boom and retaining the WWE Tag Team Championship. I think that Kofi and Bourne will be holding onto the championships for a very long time.

Prediction: Evan Bourne and Kofi Kingston retain the WWE Tag Team Championship in 12 minutes

I am really excited to see this match. I am a huge fan of both men and I believe that this match could be capable of getting match of the night. Cody Rhodes tried to salvage something from Ted DiBiase’s career and tried to help him get back on track after losing match after match. On the August 12th edition of Friday Night Smackdown, Ted DiBiase helped Cody Rhodes defeat Ezekiel Jackson to win the WWE Intercontinental Championship after distracting the referee. Then on the September 26 edition on Smackdown after Ted DiBiase suffered a loss to the World Heavyweight Champion Randy Orton, Cody turned his back on his friend and gave him a CrossRhodes. Then we didn’t see Ted DiBiase for a few weeks on WWE television. Then this past Friday night on Smackdown while Cody Rhodes was yelling at fans that they needed paper bags, a fan in the front row who had a paper bag on his head punched Cody in the face. Then it was revealed that the fan was Ted DiBiase who was ready to attack Rhodes, while Rhodes was in shock. Then Ted jumped the rail and attacked his former friend and delivered Dream Street to the Intercontinental Champion. After that attack, it was announced on Smackdown that Ted DiBiase would receive a match with Cody Rhodes for the WWE Intercontinental Championship. Both of these men go way back all the way to when they won the World Tag Team Championship at Night of Champions in 2008 in Ted’s debut WWE match. Then from there, they formed Legacy, a group which comprised of these two men along with Randy Orton. I believe that this is Ted DiBiase’s time. I think that a lot of fans have given up on Ted DiBiase and I think that he has revamped himself for a big career ahead. I can see Ted being the Intercontinental Champion for a long time, and that is exactly what I think will happen. Cody Rhodes is a good champion, but I think that it is Cody’s time for a push towards the World Heavyweight Championship. I see Ted DiBiase winning the Intercontinental Championship this Sunday in Buffalo at Night of Champions. Could we see a rematch between the two at Hell in a Cell? maybe, but we will see what happens.

Prediction: Ted DiBiase wins the Intercontinental Championship in 9 minutes
