~ UFC light-heavyweight veteran Eric “Red” Schafer successfully won his middleweight debut on Saturday in Island Lake, Illinois. Schafer defeated Chris Albandia via submission (Triangle Choke) at 1:41 of the first round of their main event bout. It was held under fighter Jeff Curran’s Xtreme Fighting Organization. Schafer improved to 12-5-2.
~ Top female 145lbs fighter, Sengoku veteran Rin Nakai, remained undefeated on Sunday by going to a 3 round draw with England’s Danielle West (3-2-1) in Tokyo, Japan. The bout was held at Pancrase “Impressive Tour 9.” Nakai is also Valkyrie’s first open weight champion. She hadn’t competed in MMA since Sengoku’s final show on 12/30/2010. Nakai, 24, moved her record to 10-0-1.
~ On September 16 in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, UFC lightweight veteran Alvin “Kid” Robinson (11-6) will return to action when he faces Adam Lorenz (5-1). The fight will be at 145lbs. The bout will be held at Aggression MMA 8 – “Unfinished Business.”
~ A new name in the MMA game, Instinct MMA, will feature some UFC veterans in Quebec, Canada, at the Rousseau Centre of Sports Excellence on Oct. 7, 2011. Former 185lb UFC title challenger Patrick Cote (15-7) faces Crafton Wallace (18-5-1) in the co-main event bout of the evening. The Instinct card is scheduled to be shown live on pay-per-view (PPV).
~ Debuting Warrior One Promotion has its main event signed for its 1st show at the Bank United Center in Miami, Florida on October 15: Gabriel “Napao” Gonzaga (11-6) vs. Jeff “The Snowman” Monson (42-12). Both men lost their respective challenges for the UFC heavyweight title with Monson losing to Tim Sylvia at UFC 65 (unanimous decision) & Gonzaga losing to Randy Couture at UFC 74 (TKO).
