~ The Ultimate Fighter season 5 participant Andy Wang fought on Saturday in Kallang, Singapore for the One Fighting Championship promotion against Zorobabel Moreira. Wang missed weight for the lightweight affair, coming in at 163 lbs. Moreira (5-1) won via TKO (Knees) at 1:49 of the second round. Wang’s record is now 7-8-1 with 1 No-Contest.
~ UFC/PRIDE heavyweight veteran Soa “The Hulk” Palelei improved to 12-3 with a 28-second 1st round TKO (Punches) against Son Hai Suk. The bout was held in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia under the Australian Fighting Championships promotion. Palelei has won 2 straight.
~ The Pancrase promotion neared its 18th anniversary as a promotion last night at the Differ Arena in Tokyo, Japan with the show “Impressive Tour 9.” UFC lightweight veteran Naoyuki Kotani submitted (Armbar) DREAM veteran Katsuya Inoue at 1:44 into the first round. Kotani was defeated by both Thiago Tavares & Dennis Siver in the UFC in 2007. Kotani has now won 4 straight to improve to 24-10-7.
~ The location of the weigh-ins for “UFC Fight Night 25: Ellenberger vs. Shields” event has been shifted to New Orleans’ Spanish Plaza. The outdoor event, which was originally expected to take place at the city’s Washington Artillery Park, kicks-off on Friday, Sept. 16, at 6:30 p.m. ET (5:30 p.m. CT local time). Additionally, charismatic heavyweight contender Matt Mitrione will host a special open-to-the-public Q&A session prior to the weigh-ins. Members of the UFC Fight Club, the UFC’s official fan club, can check-in for the festivities beginning at 4 p.m. ET.
~ Nine-time UFC veteran Din Thomas (25-8) will fight for the first time in 20 months when he competes in the main event of Fight Time 7 “The Return.” The 13-year pro will square off with George Shephard at the Oct. 7 event, going down from the War Memorial Auditorium in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.
