Events

In 1993, WWF Summerslam, held in Auburn Hills, Michigan, saw the last appearance of Ted DiBiase as an active WWF wrestler

– The Steiner Brothers (Rick & Scott) defeat The Heavenly Bodies (Tom Prichard & Jimmy Del Ray) to retain the WWF Tag Team Titles
– Shawn Michaels defeats Mr Perfect by countout to retain the WWF Intercontinental Title
– The Undertaker defeats Giant Gonzalez in a Rest In Peace Match
– Lex Luger defeats Yokozuna by countout (Yoko retains the WWF Title)

In 1998, WWF Summerslam, held in New York City, was the first PPV to be preceded by Sunday Night Heat. It also saw the PPV debut of Edge

– D’Lo Brown defeats Val Venis by DQ to retain the WWF European Title
– X-Pac defeats Jeff Jarrett in a Hair vs Hair Match, though Jarrett escaped from the ring area before he was completely shaved bald
– Edge & Sable defeat Marc Mero & Jacqueline
– Ken Shamrock defeats Owen Hart in a Lion’s Den Match
– The New Age Outlaws (Road Dogg & Billy Gunn) defeat Mankind in a No-DQ Handicap Match to win the WWF Tag Team Titles
– Triple H defeats The Rock in a Ladder Match to win the WWF Intercontinental Title
– Steve Austin defeats The Undertaker to retain the WWF Title

Title Changes

1988 – Jumbo Tsuruta & Yoshiaki Yatsu defeat Ashura Hara & Genichiro Tenryu to win the AJPW Unified World Tag Team Titles

1993 – Dustin Rhodes defeats Rick Rude to win the vacant WCW United States Title

1996 – Sid Vicious defeats Jerry Lawler to win the USWA Unified World Heavyweight Title

1999 – on Raw, The Rock n Sock Connection (The Rock & Mankind) defeat The Unholy Alliance (The Big Show & The Undertaker) to win the WWF Tag Team Titles

In Memoriam

The wrestling world has lost two personalities on this date. Firstly, in 2008, WWE Hall of Famer and legendary trainer Killer Kowalski died after suffering a heart attack at the age of 82. Secondly, in 2010, indy hardcore star JC Bailey died aged just 27 of a brain aneurysm, caused by multiple concussions and brain traumas. Interestingly, his brain is supposedly being donated for research to Boston University
