~ The Ultimate Fighter 9 participant Frank “The Tank” Lester dropped to 6-6 when he suffered a DQ (illegal soccer kick) loss to Justin Ruggio at 25 seconds into the 3rd round 2 weeks ago. The bout was the main event of Hoosier Fight Club 8: Triple Main Event held in Valparaiso, Indiana. Lester lost his only UFC bout on June 20, 2009.
~ UFC lightweight veteran Antonio “Mandingo” Mckee won on Friday in Sydney, Australia for the Cage Fighting Championship promotion. Mckee (26-4-2) defeated Jai Bradney via Submission (Rear Naked Choke) at 4:54 of the first round. Mckee was released by the UFC following his split decision loss to Jacob Volkmann at UFC 125 on January 1.
~ Bantamweight Walel Watson (8-2 MMA, 0-0 UFC) has signed a contract with the UFC to bolster the 135lb roster. “The Gazelle” dropped his professional debut in August 2008, but he quickly bounced back with 8 wins in 9 fights under a variety of regional banners. The 27 year-old Watson has yet to fight to a decision.
~ A welterweight bout between UFC/DREAM veteran Jason High (14-3 MMA, 1-0 SF) and WEC/DREAM veteran Todd Moore (14-4 MMA, 1-0 SF) takes main card status at Strikeforce Challengers 19. The event airs on Showtime on September 23 from Las Vegas.
~ Cole Escovedo (17-7 MMA, 0-1 UFC) meets Takeya Mizugaki (14-6-2 MMA, 1-1 UFC) in a key bantamweight battle at UFC 135: Jones vs. Rampage. UFC 135 takes place Sept. 24 at Denver’s Pepsi Center. Both men are WEC veterans as Escovedo is a former Featherweight Champion for the defunct promotion.
