Matt ‘the Hammer’ Hamill announced today that effective immediately he is retiring from the Ultimate Fighting Championship and mixed martial arts. The 34-year-old Loveland Ohio native first started in mixed martial arts in 2005 and debuted in the UFC in 2006 as apart of The Ultimate Fighter Season 3 cast.

Hamill is trained in Freestyle Wrestling, Greco-Roman Wrestling, Boxing and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and had competed in the UFC for the past 5 years. The light-heavyweight’s inspirational career as a deaf fighter is going to be the subject of an upcoming movie this fall bearing his name.

    Sad to hear…Hammill has always been one of my favs since he appeared on TUF…such a great story but he looked bad in his last fight.
