~ The Ultimate Fighter season 8 lightweight winner Efrain Escudero, 25, became the first defeat in Mike Rio’s career when Escudero defeated Rio (6-1) at the U.S. Century Bank Arena in Miami, Florida. Escudero won via a thrilling unanimous decision in the co-main event of Championship Fighting Alliance’s 2nd ever show held last week. Since his UFC release in September, “Hecho en Mexico” is 4-1 in just 10 months to move his record to 17-3.
~ WEC 34 middleweight veteran Jeremy “The Landlord” Lang won last Saturday at the Target Center in Minneapolis at Extreme Challenge 188. Lang submitted Shane DeZee via Rear Naked Choke at 1:23 into the first round. Lang improves his record to 21-2, he is 36 years old who hadn’t fought in 15 months.
~ Last night in Kansas City, Kansas, UFC/WEC middleweight veteran Rob “The Rosedale Reaper” Kimmons lost via unanimous decision at Titan Fighting Championships 19. Brendan Seguin was the man who defeated Kimmons, who falls to 23-8 with his 3rd straight loss. The event was shown on HDNet. Kimmons went 3-4 in over 2 years for the UFC.
~ A light-heavyweight main card bout between Roy Jones Jr. (5-1 MMA, 0-0 SF) and Derrick Mehmen (11-3 MMA, 0-0 SF) will be part of next month’s Strikeforce Challengers 18 event. Jones is an MMA fighter with a 5-1 record, not the pro boxing champion. Strikeforce Challengers 18 takes place Aug. 12 at The Pearl at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas.
~ Canadian featherweight Antonio Carvalho (13-3 MMA, 0-0 UFC) has been forced to withdraw from the fight with WEC veteran Yuri Alcantara (24-3 MMA, 0-0 UFC) that was set for UFC 134. A new opponent for Alcantara will be announced soon. UFC 134 takes place Aug. 27 at HSBC Arena in Rio De Janeiro.
