~ Bellator bantamweight veteran Chad “Robo” Robichaux lost his second straight fight this past Friday to Jonathan Mackles. Mackles won with a Guillotine just 45 seconds into the first round. The bout occured at the Houston Arena Theatre in Houston, Texas for the Legacy Fighting Championship promotion. Robichaux’s record dropped to 11-2.
~ Taylor Falls, Minn.’s Melvin Blumer shocked the Target Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota on Saturday by stopping WEC veteran Courtney Buck at 1:12 in the first round to capture the Cage Fighting Xtreme featherweight title. The finish came when Blumer knocked Buck unconscious with vicious elbows. Blumer has a twin brother, Marvin, who also fights in MMA. Buck (8-5) lost both of his WEC bouts at WEC 45 & 47.
~ UFC/PRIDE/DREAM middleweight veteran Denis Kang, 34, lost to Seung Bae Whi via TKO (Punches & Knees) at 3:18 in the 2nd round in Seoul, South Korea. The main event bout was held for the Road Fighting Championship promotion on Sunday. Kang is 2-2-1 since his UFC release in November 2009 to drop his record to 34-14-2.
~ A light-heavyweight bout between New Zealand-based James Te Huna (12-5 MMA, 1-1 UFC) and Ricardo Romero (11-2 mma, 1-1 UFC) is set for UFC 135. UFC 135 takes place Sept. 24 at Denver’s Pepsi Center. Te Huna vs. Romero is part of the preliminary card.
~ A heavyweight bout between Joey Beltran (13-5 MMA, 3-2 UFC) and undefeated promotional newcomer Stipe Miocic (6-0 MMA, 0-0 UFC) is official for UFC 136. UFC 136 takes place Oct. 8 at Houston’s Toyota Center. Beltran vs. Golden Gloves champ Miocic will take place on the evening’s preliminary card.
