In 1993, the second and final WCW Beach Blast was held in Biloxi, Mississippi. The event was renamed Bash at the Beach for 1994

– Paul Orndorff defeats Ron Simmons by DQ to retain the WCW Television Title
– The Hollywood Blonds (Brian Pillman & Steve Austin) defeat Paul Roma & Arn Anderson to retain the WCW World Tag Team Titles
– Dustin Rhodes fought Rick Rude to a draw in an Iron Man Match. As a result, the WCW United States Title remains vacant
– Ric Flair defeats Barry Windham to win the NWA World Title
– Sting & Davey Boy Smith defeat Big Van Vader & Sid Vicious

In 1999, ECW Heat Wave was held in Dayton, Ohio

– Jazz defeats Jason Knight
– Balls Mahoney & Spike Dudley defeat The Dudley Boyz (Buh Buh Ray & D-Von) to win the ECW Tag Team Titles
– Taz defeats Yoshihiro Tajiri to retain the ECW World Title
– Rob Van Dam & Jerry Lynn defeat The Impact Players (Lance Storm & Justin Credible)

In 2010, the first WWE Money In The Bank PPV was held in Kansas City, Missouri. It featured two MITB matches (one per brand), thereby increasing the number of MITB matches in that year to 3, including the then-annual match at Wrestlemania

– Kane wins the Smackdown Money In The Bank Ladder Match
– Alicia Fox defeats Eve to retain the WWE Divas Title
– The Hart Dynasty (David Hart Smith & Tyson Kidd) defeat The Usos (Jimmy & Jey) to retain the WWE Unified Tag Team Titles
– Rey Mysterio defeats Jack Swagger to retain the World Heavyweight Title
– Kane cashes in his Money In The Bank and defeats Rey Mysterio to win the World Heavyweight Title
– Layla defeats Kelly Kelly to retain the WWE Womens Title
– The Miz wins the Raw Money In The Bank Ladder Match
– Sheamus defeats John Cena in a Cage Match to retain the WWE Title

1980 – Verne Gagne defeats Nick Bockwinkel to win the AWA World Title

1985 – Animal Hamaguchi & Isamu Teranishi defeat Takashi Ishikawa & Akio Sato to win the AJPW All Asia Tag Team Titles

1989 – The Brain Busters (Tully Blanchard & Arn Anderson) defeat Demolition (Ax & Smash) in a 2-out-of-3 Falls Match to win the WWF Tag Team Titles

1991 – Billy Black & Joel Deaton defeat Johnny Ace & Kenta Kobashi to win the AJPW All Asia Tag Team Titles

2000 – on Nitro, Lance Storm defeats Mike Awesome in the final of a tournament to win the vacant WCW United States Title. Storm unofficially renames the title tp the WCW Canadian Heavyweight Title

2005 – Kazuyuki Fujita defeats Hiroyoshi Tenzan to win the IWGP Heavyweight Title

2005 – KENTA defeats Yoshinobu Kanemaru to win the GHC Junior Heavyweight Title


Happy birthday to 3-time WWE Tag Team Champion Joey Mercury (32), WWC founder Carlos Colon Sr (63), one-time WWF European and Tag Champion Al Snow (48) and one-time IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion The Great Sasuke (42)

In Memoriam

On this day in 2007, the wrestling world lost 4-time ECW Tag Team Champion John Kronus aged just 38. Kronus retired from the ring in 2002, coming back to make occasional appearances on the Hardcore Homecoming shows. He was found dead in his fiancées home of what was later discovered to be a heart attack, brought on by an enlarged heart. Kronus had recently undergone knee surgery, which may have aggravated the condition
