7/14/11 Impact Wrestling Recap (A Midsummer Nightmare)

A recap of Sting’s decent into madness is aired. Mr. Anderson joining Immortal is also touched upon as well as Sting’s rematch against Anderson that takes place on tonight’s huge edition of Impact Wrestling.

Eric Bischoff’s music hits as he comes out with Immortal, sans Mr. Anderson, who are all dressed up in tuxedos. A poker table is set up in the ring as Bischoff says he is in a festive mood and wants to gamble with some people’s career. Bischoff says Mr. Anderson threw a party a few weeks ago and nobody showed up, so they are going to make it right as he is now a part of their family and he will leave tonight as the World Champion.

Bischoff then calls out Anderson to the ring and he comes down in a camouflage tuxedo with the TNA World Championship. Hulk Hogan says they haven’t always seen eye to eye in the past, but they have always shrived to be the best. Anderson says it may be a gamble to join the Immortal, but as long as he stays the top card, it is a gamble he is willing to take. As Anderson finishes his statement, the lights go down in the Impact Wrestling Zone.

Sting then appears sitting at the poker table and says he see himself becoming the World Champion once again, thus, kicking out his crusade of bring the company back to Dixie Carter. Hulk Hogan says the one thing he can guarantee is that he will be leaving the building in a stretcher. Sting disagrees and says he has some aces in the hole with the network and that the slightest little incident will bring out their bite.

Sting then promises to leave not in a stretcher, but as the World Champion and says his aces will appear before his very eyes as a group of clown are seen in the rafters. Sting says his friends will be watching his back as the lights go out once again and Sting disappears. The lights return and Immortal is left standing in the ring with a dumb look on their faces as we head into a commercial break.

We return as announce team runs down the Bound for Glory Series and what has happened during the house shows and televised events. The series continues tonight as the three competitors who have yet to score any points will meet in a three way match and that match is up next.

Match 1: D’Angelo Dinero vs. Robert Roode vs. Samoa Joe (Bound for Glory Series Match)
The bell rings as Joe quickly takes Roode down before he sends Pope out to the floor. Joe then works over Roode’s shoulder by putting him in an armbar but Pope breaks it up. Roode comes back and hits Joe with a spinebuster but Pope comes in and takes Roode down. Joe goes out to the floor to regroup as Pope continues to work over Roode and picks up a near fall in the process.

Pope misses with the DDE but he misses and Roode comes back and takes Pope out with a neckbreaker from the middle rope. Roode picks up a near fall as Joe finally comes back and takes them both out. Joe sets up the Pope for a Muscle Buster but Roode breaks it up as all three men are down on the canvas. Joe then puts Roode in a rear naked choke but Roode counters it and picks up the pin fall victory over Joe to pick up seven points. After the match, Joe disputes the pin fall as Joe and Earl Hebner gets into a shouting match until some referees come in and break it up.

Jeff and Karen Jarrett are seen walking with their suitcases in the backstage area as they are returning from Mexico.

We see Immortal in the office where Hulk Hogan says play time is over and he wants Sting eliminated. Eric Bischoff says he wants everything to be done the right way so Sting doesn’t even make it to the ring. Bischoff then calls out Abyss and says to get it done, unlike what he did with the X Division on Sunday. Jeff and Karen Jarrett enter the office and Karen hands out some sombreros. Jarrett then opens a briefcase with a championship in it as they all celebrate.

The Pope is backstage with Devon’s kids who tell him to keep his head up as they have his support. Devon walks in and tells his kids to stay away from Pope but the shake his hands and walk away. Devon then tells Pope that they are his boys and that they are nothing to him. Pope says they look up to him but Devon says he doesn’t trust Pope and tells him to move on. Pope tells him to have it his way before walking away.

We are treated to high flying and fast paced footage from Destination X, which took place last Sunday. We then head into the next match of the night.

Match 2: Shannon Moore vs. Austin Aries
The match starts as the two go back and forth in the opening moments. Moore picks up a couple of pin attempts and sends Aries out to the floor. Moore then flies over the top rope and takes Aries out on the floor before sending him back in and taking him out with a high risk move off the top rope. Aries then distracts Moore and the referee with the book of DILLIGAF and Aries nails Moore with his steel chain to pick up the pin fall.

After the match, Alex Shelley comes out and grabs the chain from Aries and says that everyone saw what happened as Aries leaves the ring.

Abyss is backstage and tells Brian Kendrick that he has something that belongs to him. He says he isn’t waiting for the rematch and says he is getting the X Division Championship back for Immortal. Abyss then turns around and is laid out by a clown as we head into a commercial break.

Shannon Moore and Alex Shelley are backstage as Moore says Austin Aries cheated by hitting him with the chain. Shelley says he technically picked up the three count but says that Aries isn’t so great. Elsewhere, Aries says he is the best and he will compete with everyone and not be beaten.

A video package focusing on the Tara/Madison feud is aired. Tara says she can’t wait to get her hands on Madison and Madison gives us a recap of their history and says that she will put the final nail in her coffin tonight. Tara says she has gotten Madison a present but she will have to wait until after their match to see what it is.

A video package for Bound for Glory is aired, which will take place in Philadelphia, PA. The talent talks about wanting to be the best and how it is their time and why wrestling matters.

Scott Steiner is backstage with SoCal Val and wants to take her back to his hotel room. A clown then comes out of the shadows and takes Steiner out as we head into the next match.

Match 3: Madison Rayne vs. Tara
Tara brings Madison’s gift out to the ring but tells her that she can’t open it until after the match. Madison asks Tara to lay down so she can get her gift but Tara refuses. Tara then takes Madison down with a hard clothesline and begins to ram her head into the canvas. Madison mounts a comeback and sends Tara out to the floor and into the steel steps. Madison then goes after her gift and takes out the tarantula, Poison, as Madison begins to scream. Tara then takes Madison out with the Widow’s Peak to pick up the pin fall. After the match, Tara grabs the spider but Madison runs out of the ring and up the entrance ramp.

Kurt Angle is seen walking in the backstage area as we head into a commercial break.

The British Invasion are backstage as Magnus says the only thing that matters to them in wrestling and the tag team titles. Douglas Williams says with the Bound for Glory Series going on, Beer Money has their eyes off the ball, so now is the best time to do it.

Kurt Angle’s music hits as he makes his way towards the ring. Angle says he is the #1 contender to the TNA World Championship and will get his title shot at Hardcore Justice. Angle then wonders who his opponent will be and says he’d rather face Mr. Anderson as they have a bit of history between each other. Angle says he is coming after Anderson even if he loses tonight.

As for Sting, they have history too with the Main Event Mafia. Angle talks about their empty arena match and says there wasn’t a winner that night. As a matter of fact, Angle has never beaten Sting and that pisses him off even more. Angle says he will be watching the match tonight and guarantees that he will be leaving Hardcore Justice as the champion before he leaves the ring.

Jeff and Karen Jarrett are seen leaving the Impact Wrestling Zone as Jarrett says he knows Sting will be taken care of tonight as head towards their vehicle. A clown is hiding in their car, though, and he drags Jarrett away with a baseball bat across his neck.

Match 4: Mexican America vs. the British Invasion (#1 Contenders Match)
The British Invasion storm the ring and go after Mexican America to start this match off. They single out Anarquia and work him over as Hernandez makes the blind tag and takes control of the match. Hernandez turns control over to Anarquia, who picks up a near fall over Douglas Williams. Hernandez is tagged back in but Williams catches him with a European uppercut as he crawls to his corner and makes the hot tag to Magnus.

Magnus comes in and takes out Anarquia and Hernandez and picks up a near fall. The match breaks down as the British Invasion hit Anarquia with a couple of double team moves but Rosita comes out and distracts the referee. Hernandez then comes in and drags Williams out of the ring and hits Magnus with an elbow drop. Hernandez then puts Anarquia on top of Magnus as they pick up the pin fall to become the #1 contenders to the tag team championship.

Eric Bischoff is in the office with Gunner and Bully Ray and tells them that they are the last line of defense against Sting. Bischoff asks them not to let Hulk Hogan down as Gunner says he is sick of being the hunted and wants to become the hunter. Ray agrees with him as Gunner goes out to look for Sting as Ray stays behind and has a concerned look on his face.

A video package featuring X Division Championship is aired. Brian Kendrick says he did what he said he was going to do by winning the X Division Championship. Alex Shelley is shown and says he risked his life to become the #1 contender to the X Division Championship and says that Detroit needs a champion. These two will meet next week for the X Division Championship on Impact Wrestling.

The announce team talks about tonight’s main event and what the Sting’s clown have done throughout the broadcast. We then head out to the parking lot where Gunner is looking for Sting. Four clowns come out with baseball bats and take him out before taking off their masks. They are revealed to be Fortune as Kazarian asks about Bully Ray. AJ Styles says he has already been taken care of as we head into a commercial break.

Match 5: Sting vs. Mr. Anderson (TNA World Championship)
The bell rings Anderson hits Sting a few times but it has no effect on him. Anderson heads out to floor to regroup and comes back in as Sting nails him a few times before he takes him down with a standing dropkick. Anderson again heads out to the floor and tries to take Sting down with a sunset flip as he comes back in, but Sting counters it and hits Anderson a few times before hitting a Stinger Splash.

Sting goes for another Stinger Splash but Anderson counters and dropkicks Sting in the knee as Sting goes out to the floor. Sting rolls back into the ring as Anderson begins to focus on his leg before he puts Sting in the Scorpion Death Lock. Sting is able to crawl to the ring ropes to break the hold but Anderson continues to focus on his leg. Sting fights his way back into the match and takes Anderson down with a series of clotheslines before hitting Anderson with the Mic Check for a near fall.

Anderson and Sting go back and forth as referee Brian Hebner is knocked out to the floor. Sting then places Anderson in the Scorpion Death Lock and Anderson taps out but the referee is still out. Bully Ray then comes out to the ring and nails Sting with a chain and lays him out. Anderson then holds up Sting and Ray wraps the chain around his fist as the lights go out in the Impact Wrestling Zone. The come back on as we see a clown and he chases Ray out of the ring.

The lights go out again and when they return we only see Anderson in the ring by himself. Sting then nails Anderson from behind and hits the Scorpion Death Drop and the referee comes back into the ring and makes the three count to crown a new TNA World Champion. The clown is seen standing on the entrance ramp and reveals himself to be Kurt Angle as Impact Wrestling comes to a close.

– Robert Roode defeated Samoa Joe & D’Angelo Dinero by pin fall in a Bound for Glory Series Match.
– Austin Aries defeated Shannon Moore by pin fall.
– Tara defeated Madison Rayne by pin fall.
– Mexican America defeated the British Invasion to become #1 contenders to the tag team championship.
– Sting defeated Mr. Anderson by pin fall to win the TNA World Championship.
