~ Denniston “Mad Max” Sutherland won the UCMMA Middleweight Championship by knocking out UFC veteran Mark “The Wizard” Weir at 3:20 in the first round. Ultimate Challenge MMA 21: Stand Your Ground was held Saturday at The Troxy in London, England. Weir (20-18) also competed in the WEC & PRIDE.
~ The Ultimate Fighter season 8 lightweight winner Efrain Escudero (16-3) has signed with BAMMA (British Association of Mixed Martial Arts). Escudero, 25, holds a 3-2 record in the UFC & has won 3 fights since his release by the UFC last September. Escudero will compete at BAMMA 7
~ Former UFC middleweight Nate Marquardt is expected to answer all the mysterious questions later today at 1 p.m. ET when the former middleweight number one contender breaks his silence over his messy break-up with the UFC. UFC President Dana White has said only Marquardt can provide answers to why he was cut from the organization.
~ Steve Mazzagatti will handle officiating duties for July’s Dominick Cruz vs. Urijah Faber UFC bantamweight championship bout. The decision was made on Monday’s Nevada State Athletic Commission monthly meeting, which took place at Las Vegas’ Grant Sawyer State Office Building. UFC 132 is set for this Saturday on Pay-Per-View from Las Vegas.
~ Forza, LLC, the Zuffa, LLC subsidiary charged with running the recently-acquired Strikeforce promotion, was yesterday granted a promoter’s license in the state of Nevada, and Nevada State Athletic Commission executive director Keith Kizer revealed the company is planning to host a total of four events in Sin City before year’s end. “Strikeforce Challengers 17: Voelker vs. Bowling 3″ will be the first Las Vegas event.
