Wrestling’s Greatest Tag Team Signs with …

From ROH:

ROH officials are excited to announce that the ROH World Tag Team Champions Charlie Haas & Shelton Benjamin, collectively known as Wrestling’s Greatest Tag Team, have signed their names on the dotted line and are officially under contract to Ring of Honor Wrestling!

Haas & Benjamin debuted for ROH at “Glory by Honor IX” when the unsuccessfully battled then-Tag Team Champions The Kings of Wrestling in a non-title bout. It would be several months before the ROH faithful saw WGTT in action again, at the December 2010 “ROH on HDNet” TV Tapings to be exact, but since that return they have remained undefeated as a team, culminating in Charlie & Shelton ending the nearly one-year title reign of the KoW at “Honor Takes Center Stage: Chapter 1”. Since capturing the belts, WGTT have successfully defended the belts on two occasions, first against The Briscoes at “ROH Revolution: Canada” and most recently this past Sunday at “Best In The World 2011” where they managed to retain against the Briscoes, The All Night Express, and The KoW in an elimination four way.

Now Haas & Benjamin head into Richmond, VA on Friday night July 8th to defend their belts one again; this time against, as of this writing, unannounced opponents. But following the vicious beatdown perpetrated by Jay & Mark Briscoe after the match last night, Charlie & Shelton spoke their piece in the locker room to ROH’s cameras:

As it stands, Jay & Mark Briscoe are currently slotted into the ROH Tag Lottery to determine who will receive a future shot at the World Tag Team Titles while ROH officials are standing by their earlier decision to see that a team NOT in the elimination bout last Sunday challenges for the belts in Richmond. Tickets for our return to the Richmond Raceway can be purchased here: http://www.rohstore.com/index.php?dispatch=products.view&product_id=209, and while it certainly doesn’t look like WGTT will get their wish in Richmond, it is safe to say that whoever gets the opportunity will be in for a rough night…

    ROH will be signing more soon. Can they compete with TNA in regards to pay? benefits? If they can surpass TNA in that aspect, then I foresee a new number 2 company within 24 months.

    wrestling’s greatest tag team is about to sign with wwe KINGS OF WRESTLING i just hope they keep he gimmick and not end up another beverly brothers

    @Theo

    WWE won’t keep there names. They have an obcession with “building their own stars” and keeping people from knowing who they were in their past life.

  4. SeanB says:

    wait. i thought shelton benjimin went back to wwe

  5. Steve says:

    He had a tryout but WWE sadly didn’t offer him a contract. They are idiots. Benjamin is one of the best workers in the business and was over in the WWE. They simply misued him opver and over again.

  6. Nick says:

    Sean, Shelton wrestled a couple dark matches a few months back but that’s all.

    I’m honestly glad to see ROH get Haas and Benjamin, as the two will be far happier there I think.

    Honestly, I hope the TV expansion comes with the addition of a couple more teams to the ROH roster. It would be nice to see Aeroform or some of Chikara’s great tag teams pop up.
