CM Punk comments on leaving WWE

CM Punk posted the following message on his Twitter account:

“I knew I was gone at the beginning of the year. I just woke up one day and I knew. That’s the way I work a lot of the time. I think it’s creepy too, but it’s really helpful. I knew I’d be history by July. Come say goodbye on July 17th. I promise to go out with a bang. Trust me. XxX”

  1. Rob Roy says:

Noooooooooo, best thing to happen to WWE in years was hiring you :(

  2. nacho says:

thats the same thing he said in a forum when he was leaving ROH for the WWE in 2005.

  4. Phil says:

He’s probably on the verge of signing a new contract I bet. Or he will take a break and be back around fall. TBH, Punk has a lot left in him, he doesn’t get injured much and he’s always on the road. He’s got a solid physically conditioned body for what he does. So either this is building into his new contract being signed, or he will take some time and return to TV and performing in a few months. There’s a lot of missing talent right now where Punk is needed and WWE is aware of that.

  5. mshelez says:

I hope he is taking a break and not leaving wrestling altogether. He is far too good a wrestler and there will be a void that won’t be easy to fill.

  6. RJ Ace says:

CM Punk seems like he is his own an and he marches to the beat of his own drum. I don’t get caught up too much in wrestler’s interviews because how he feels now may not be how he feels a year from now. Anyway regardless of what happens, I hope CM Punk is happy and healthy in life and he makes the best decision for him and his family. He could be working us or he may be sincere. Either way, CM Punk is one of WWE’s top 5 guys and is one of the few compelling characters left in pro wrestling.

  7. deathedge says:

I agree, but he should take however long he wants. The man has busted his butt for years and deserves a nice break.

  8. The XFL says:

Honestly, he deserves the break. He is one of the purest wrestler/entertainers to ever step in a WWE ring. As for the future? IF he were to lose at MiTB, let him sit it out till next years royal rumble. He’ll be the surprise entry for the match, win it, and since superman is busy with hollywood in his match, give Punk the title match, and LET HIM WIN!

  9. Captain Ass says:

He should take his time and recharge his batteries. Jericho leaves and comes back every year or so too, but for different reasons.

  10. The XFL says:

**World Heavyweight Title match, since I have a gut feeling Cena will hold on to the title till Mania.

  11. The XFL says:

Things like this will HOPEFULLY allow WWE creative to build up the younger talent, (i.e. Cody Rhodes) since im almost positive Punk isn’t the only one who’ll be leaving this year.

  12. McMahon says:

Same exact thing Punk said right before winning the ROH title.

  13. Brian says:

I just like the fact he said the word ‘wrestling’ in his promo last night! 😉

  14. dave says:

CM Punk is going out with the WWE Title. I guarantee it. They’re removing the brand split. Expect pink slips galore thinning out the midcard.

  15. Hogan matters says:

those bastards are definitely playing with us (the “informed” viewership), to somehow disinform us, which is great! I just think it was the right thing for punk to put his will to leave wwe on the table, work or not. With all the absent stars (taker, hhh, batista, jericho, hbk, edge, zack ryder) it should have been punks time to step up to orton & cena. but he was f#*%ed…

  16. dave says:

” With all the absent stars (taker, hhh, batista, jericho, hbk, edge, ZACK RYDER) ”

    you legend

  17. Daniel Wilson says:

I just hope he doesn’t go to TNA.

  18. steve says:

He’s already been in TNA, doubt they would take him back. Personally i never saw what the fuss is about him.

  19. Steve says:

Well thgey have been misusing him for over a year now. Maybe he will go back to ROH and helop them become a national power. A man can dream.

  20. dave says:

Steve – Hmmmm, dare to dream

  21. DeathNote81 says:

They haven’t done anything good with Punk since his rivalry with Morrison on ECW. Those are the people I want to see him feud with–the midcarders; not Cena and Orton. I was hoping for a Punk/Edge feud, but that never happened, and now Edge is retired and Punk is leaving. Thanks, WWE.

  22. sonia says:

First Edge now Punk Vinnie Mac you’re ion trouble

  23. -Jay- says:

Punk can work anywhere, the guy is a star the likes of which pro wrestling hasn’t seen in YEARS.

  24. Rob says:

Damn, WWE… you’re screwed now. Better put the strap on him, so if he comes back, it will be to you…

  25. N. Gaijin says:

Geez, he’s just taking time off folks. WWe will certainly be far less entertaining without him, but as has already been mentioned, his void gives another young talent a chance to step up. Not only that, but the fact the WWe is letting him go out with a title shot IN HIS HOMETOWN speaks volumes. He’ll be back in WWe again, just you wait.

Kudos to Punk to calling back to something he said on his LJ so long ago, and credit to McMahon (the poster) for digging it up. Punk knows how smart his fans are. xDDDDDD
