~ WEC bantamweight veteran Frank Gomez improved to 10-3 with a Submission (Rear Naked Choke) win over Tim Snyder at 3:19 of the first round in Rio Rancho, New Mexico. The bout was held on Friday as part of Shark Fights’ first out-of-state show (they’re based in Texas.) Gomez had a even (2-2) WEC record.
~ 2 time UFC heavyweight veteran Denis Stojnic improved to 9-3 with a Submission (Rear Naked Choke) win at 4:59 of the first round against Mladen Kujundzic. The bout was held on Saturday in Moscow, Russia for the “United Glory” promotion. Stojnic suffered UFC defeats to Cain Velasquez & Stefan Struve in 2009.
~ UFC middleweight veteran Jesse Taylor submitted (Rear Naked Choke) fellow UFC middleweight veteran Denis Kang just 97 seconds into their main event fight on Saturday. The bout was held in Nanaimo, British Columbia, Canada for the Battlefield Fight League promotion. Taylor improved to 19-6 with his 5th straight win while Kang’s record is 34-13-2.
~ UFC/IFL light-heavyweight veteran Mike Ciesnolevicz (19-4) won by TKO (Headkick) at 33 seconds into the second round over Bruce Nelson (23-32) Saturday. The bout was held for PRESTIGE FIGHTING CHAMPIONSHIP II at the Casman Center in Fort McMurray, Alberta, Canada. Ciesnolevicz went 1-1 during his short UFC tenure in 2009.
~ Shinya Aoki (28-5 MMA, 12-2 DREAM) used a neck crank to submit UFC veteran Rich Clementi (40-20-1 MMA, 0-1 DREAM) at the 2:17 mark of the second round last night at “DREAM: Fight for Japan.” The event, DREAM. 17, was held at the Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan. The UFC veteran took the fight with Aoki on just 10 days’ notice after planned bouts with Antonio McKee, Jamie Varner and Shane Nelson failed to materialize.
