~ During a Friday meeting in Las Vegas, the Nevada State Athletic Commission unanimously approved the UFC’s request to install seven-inch monitors next to judges’ seats. The monitors will be used at all future UFC events, including UFC 130, which takes place May 28 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The UFC recently has requested and won permission to use monitors in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, and Philadelphia for UFC 131 and UFC 133, respectively. Nevada approved the measure with a 5-0 vote.
~ Sengoku Raiden Championship veteran Mamed Khalidov defeated UFC middleweight veteran Matt Lindland via submission (guillotine choke) in the first round last night in Gdansk, Poland for KSW organization. Lindland has lost 4 of his last 5 to drop to 22-9. Khalidov’s record improved to 23-4-2 as he has now won 20 of his last 23 bouts.
~ UFC/PRIDE/Strikeforce middleweight veteran Frank “Twinkle Toes” Trigg won his second straight fight last night in London, England. Trigg won via a TKO (Cut Stoppage) over John Phillips in the first round by landing a hard elbow in the guard of Phillips. Trigg’s bout was held at BAMMA 6 & he improved to 21-8.
~ Five days before his UFC 130 headliner with Matt Hamill, former champion Quinton “Rampage” Jackson (31-8 MMA, 6-2 UFC) will return to “The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson.” Jackson’s episode of the CBS’ late-night talk show airs late Monday/early Tuesday at 12:35 a.m. ET/PT.
~ UFC lightweight veteran Rich “No Love” Clementi (40-19-1 MMA, 0-0 DREAM) will step in to face DREAM Lightweight Champion Shinya Aoki (27-5 MMA, 11-2 DREAM) at DREAM.17. DREAM.17 takes place May 29 at Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan, and serves as a fundraiser following earthquakes and a tsunami that recently ravaged the country.
