UFC 129 GSP vs. Sheilds  Rogers Centre in Toronto, Canada

- Lightweight bout

Mark Bocek vs. Ben Henderson

Round 1

A little bit of a feeling out process between the two. Both men and throwing punches but Henderson is backing up a little more. Bocek works for the take down and completes it. Bocek is on top and it trying to keep side control while pulling Henderson. Benson is making faces saying he’s not hurting me. Not much action to end the round.

 10-9 Bocek

Round 2

 Bocek works for the take down to start the round while Henderson hits him elbows with no damage. Bocek takes Henderson down but Henderson gets back up. They exchange strikes and Henderson takes Bocek down. Henderson works for position. Boeck gets back up but Henderson holds on and pushes Bocek against the fence. Bocek gets for a guillotine and holds for awhile. He transitions to an anaconda choke. Holds it for almost 1 min until Henderson gets out and lands elbows, punches and knees. Lands an elbow that cuts the top of Bocek’s head. I think Henderson stole the round with that flurry.

Round 3

Bocek gets the take down to start the round. Henderson gets out from the bottom and drops punches from the guard. Bocek wraps Henderson’s right leg at a weird angle. Henderson scrambles to get out and lands punches while keeping Bocek against the fence. Boeck goes for another take down but it is blocked and Henderson lands a combo of knees and elbows in the clinch.

 10-9 Henderson

 Winner: Ben Henderson All three judges score it 30-27

-Lightheavyweight bout

Vladimir Matyushenko vs. Jason Brilz

Round 1

Both men meet in the center. Matyushenko throws two rights and a left. Matyushenko lands a wild left uppercut and Brilz goes down and arms dropped right away. Matyushenko jumps on top and lands two more punches and the Miragliotta stops the fight. The janitor mopped the floor with Briliz. (Sorry, I could not help it)

Winner Vladimir Matyushenko via KO 20 seconds in round 1.

-They are airing the first prelim from before the PPV went live Pablo Garza vs. Yeves Jabouin

Pablo Garza wins via flying triangle choke at 4:31 of round 1. Could be submission of the night.

-Lightheavyweight bout

Randy Couture vs. Lyoto Machida

- Steven Seagal is walking down to the cage with Machida. Couture is walking down to the theme from the movie Vision Quest. It will be interesting to see if Machida is more aggressive due to his decision loss against Rampage.

Round 1

Both men meet in the middle. Randy is trying not to stand in front of him. Randy rushes in and gets hit with two punches. Machida hits some short leg kicks. Randy lands an over hand right but can’t find his range. Randy misses at right hand and Machida hits two more punches to end the round.

Round 2

Machida hits another short leg kick and lands a right hand. Randy still can’t find his range. Randy throws a right misses a right and stands in front of him and Machida faints a left and lands a right front kick to the face and Randy is down and out.

Winner: Lyoto Machida via KO at 1:05 in round 2.

-Machida says in the post fight interview that he always wanted to Randy and that he is a hero.

- Joe Rogan asks Randy if we will see him again and Randy says “No. I have come to this decision for some time now.” Rogan calls him the greatest of all time.

-UFC World Featherweight Title

 Jose Aldo vs. Mark Hominick

Round 1

Both men touch gloves to start the round. Aldo lands a right hand and Hominick and he counters with a left to the body that gets a slight pop form the crowd. Hominick lands a leg kick that drops Aldo but he gets right back up. Aldo takes down Hominick lands in his guard while pushing him against the fence. Mark goes for an arm bar, Aldo pops his arm out. Aldo is landing elbows while Hominick holds on to his wrist. Hominick is looking to get the fight stood up. McCarthy tells them to work. He stands them up. Hominick lands a leg kick and Aldo takes him right down.

Round 2

Take down stuffed by Hominick  Stuffs another take down. Hominick is out boxing Aldo and beating him to the punch with a left hand to the liver. Mark throws a short right and Aldo takes him down. Aldo back in Hominick’s guard. Aldo landing shots. Mark looking to tie up Aldo so the ref will stand it up…..and he dose. Aldo gets the take down and lands in side control to end the round.

10-9 Hominick

Round 3

Leg from Hominick to start the round. Aldo starts landing leg kicks of his own. Hominick is not blocking the leg kicks. Aldo beating him to the punch with rights and left. Aldo takes down Hominick, but, Hominick gets back up. Aldo slides out of the way of Hominick’s punches and lands a counter right that drops him. Aldo lands a few punches and realizes he can’t finish and lands in Hominick’s guard. Nothing much after this to end the round.

10-9 Aldo

Round 4

 Aldo landing a left leg kick and connects with a hard right hand and kicks Hominick which drops him but gets back up. Hominick’s eye has taken a lot of damage. Aldo lands a hard left hand and right elbow that drops Hominick and Aldo lands in his guard and starts landing elbows and punches. There is a massive knot growing over the right eye on Hominick. It keeps getting bigger as Aldo lands punches while Hominick looks to tie up Aldo’s wrist. Doctor comes in and looks at the knot and lets the fight go on. I did not see that coming. Aldo takes him down again and the round is over.

10-9 Aldo

Round 5

Aldo lands an over hand right and a right leg kick. Hominick goes for the take down and and Aldo hooks the guillotine but Hominick gets out and lands in Aldo guard. Hominick is just landing punch after punch to Aldo’s face. He is landing a lot of shots but they are not doing enough damage. Fans are going crazy and Hominick. Hominick ends the round on top and landing punches on Aldo.

10-9 Hominick

Winner and still champion Jose Aldo via judges decision. 48-45, 49-46, 48-46  All cards for Aldo.

-UFC World Welterweight title

 Georges St. Pierre  vs.  Jake Shields

Round 1

 Jake Shields is looking stiff with his stand up early on. GSP throws a leg kick but Shields holds on for dear life while he backs up GPS to the cage. Shields lets go of the leg and wraps up GSP but GSP reverses it and pins Sheilds against the cage. They back off the cage and GSP throws two spinning back kicks that do nothing. GSP keeps working the jab and keeping Shields outside to close the round.

 10-9 GSP

Round 2

 Sheilds lands two over hand rights. GSP lands a couple of jabs while attempting to land an over hand right. He keeps trying for it. GSP lands a spinning back kick to the stomach of Shields. Jakes looks a little stunned by the kick. Jake tries for another a take down but it did not work.

Round 3

 Jake comes out a little more aggressive and his strikes. GSP lands a stiff jab. GSP lands a over hand right that wobbles Shields. Jake tries to clinch but GSP pushes him off. GSP tries another over hand right but misses. Shields tries to take him down, straight on, but it did not work. GSP over hand right but misses, Shields lands a switch left kick to the body.  GSP catches a kick from Shields and maintains side control to end the round. GSP is having a little trouble seeing out of it.

 10-9 GSP

Round 4

 GSP takes down Shields, sits in his guard and gets right back up. GSP is landing jabs but misses a over hand right. Sheilds fails at a clinch attempt. GSP lands a left high kick that drops Shields. GSP thinks about jumping into the guard but changes his mind. Shields grabs his leg and tries to take him down but GSP escapes. Jake lands a right cross followed by a jab. GSP’s eye and nose are bleeding. Shields taunting him.

Georges St-Pierre defeated Jake Shields via unanimous decision (50-45, 48-47, 48-47) – defends welterweight title
