~ MMA pioneer Dan “The Beast” Severn collected the 99th win and 60th submission of his career on Saturday, tapping local Aaron Garcia in the first round of their heavyweight bout at King of the Cage’s Lubbock, Texas, debut. The former WWE wrestler’s record is 99-16-7 after his 10th straight win. He is 52 years old.
~ Following a tough three round split decision loss at UFC Fight Night 24, former “Ultimate Fighter” finalist Kris “Savage” McCray (5-3) has been released from the promotion. McCray has lost 3 straight bouts inside the Octagon, he is 29 years old.
~ URBAN CONFLICT CHAMPIONSHIPS IV takes place this Friday in the William G. Mennen Sports Arena in Morristown, NJ & will feature the MMA return of Rolles Gracie (3-1) when he faces Braden Bice (8-11). Gracie hasn’t competed since a year ago at UFC 109 when he was TKO’d by Joey Beltran.
~ Chael Sonnen will get a formal chance to clear the air with the Nevada State Athletic Commission. The onetime UFC middleweight contender is expected to be placed on the agenda for the commission’s next meeting, which takes place April 27 in Las Vegas, NSAC Executive Director Keith Kizer confirmed. The five members of the NSAC will decide whether or not to grant Sonnen both a fighter’s license and a second’s (cornerman’s) license. Sonnen’s appearance follows a meeting this past month with Kizer.
~ After suffering back-to-back losses, the Brazilian middleweight Mario Miranda (10-3) has been released from the UFC. Miranda went 1-3 during his just over 1 year tenure with the UFC.
