~ Nova Scotian welterweight Matt MacGrath utilized positional dominance behind a plethora of takedowns to lock up the unanimous decision win (30-27, 30-27, 30-27) over “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 9 alum Dean Amasinger (7-4) on Saturday. The bout was held for Knockout Entertainment in Orilia, Ontario, Canada.
~ Two-time lightweight title challenger Kenny Florian (14-5 MMA, 11-4 UFC) compete in an incredible fourth different weight class for the UFC. A finalist on the original season of “The Ultimate Fighter,” Florian competed as a middleweight on the show. After losing to Diego Sanchez in the tournament finale, Florian dropped to 170 pounds, where he went 2-0. Despite the success, Florian dropped down to 155 pounds, where he amassed a 9-3 record that includes two failed bids at the UFC lightweight title. He will fight in the summer.
~ The Nogueira brothers, Antonio Rodrigo & Antonio Rogerio, celebrated the grand opening of Blackhouse MMA in San Diego last Saturday with appearances from Anderson Silva, Mark Munoz, Travis Browne, Dominick Cruz, Phil Davis, Andre Galvao and more. “Big Nog” was also sporting a tattoo inside his right bicep.
~ A #1 Contender’s Match featuring former UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar (5-2 MMA, 4-2 UFC) and contender Junior Dos Santos (12-1 MMA, 6-0 UFC) is now official for UFC 131, which takes place June 11 at Rogers Arena in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The winner faces title-holder Cain Velasquez later on in the year.
~ The long-awaited rematch and title fight between UFC bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz (17-1 MMA, 0-0 UFC) and ex-titleholder Urijah Faber (25-4 MMA, 1-0 UFC) is set for UFC 132. UFC 132: Cruz vs. Faber takes place July 2 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas. Cruz and Faber first fought three years ago at WEC 26. Then-featherweight champ Faber submitted Cruz in just 98 seconds. It remains the only loss of Cruz’s career.
