Hulk Hogan criticizes WWE for The Rock’s return

Reported by Adam Martin of

Peter Rosenberg of Hot 97 FM is featuring an interview with Hulk Hogan talking about his return to TNA tonight at the Impact tapings in Fayetteville, NC and why he wasn’t a fan of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson trashing John Cena in his return promo to WWE two weeks ago.

“That is one of the reasons me and Vince McMahon don’t get along because we disagree on wrestling theory. He’s a genius. He has done a great job keeping the business alive and keeping it rolling.

(Peter Rosenberg asks Hogan if there was something Hogan didn’t like about Rock’s return).

“Yeah, yeah. There is certain ways to do things. You know, for The Rock to come out and say, we’ve gone from Austin 3:16 to The People’s Champion to all of a sudden, you can’t see me (in whiny voice). They spent so much time building John Cena up. If it was me I would have said, from the Austin era to The People’s Champion era to John Cena. And I just gotta know in my heart whose the better man. There is a way to really build somebody up. You know.

All of a sudden in three or four seconds he had the whole arena screaming that Cena sucks. Sometimes I just don’t understand the philosophy because John Cena is going to be there all the time. And even though The Rock said he was back, he was only back for one day. He isn’t going to be there wrestling every single week like John Cena is, you know, holding it down and keeping it real. All that stuff is scripted, they have Stephanie McMahon and writers telling The Rock exactly what to say. I just didn’t understand why they wanted to destroy Cena so quickly.”

  2. IronHyde says:

LOL! I don’t think Hogan has heard the “vicious rumor” that they’re playing with the idea of turning Cena heel after Mania. LMAO!!

  3. simon says:

hogan needs to sit and think about the crap that is tna wwe is gonna b a monster the rock and cena thing is great gives us wwe fans sumthing to think about and this can only make cenas carer better with older fans

Somebody get grandpa Hogan his diaper and pureed steroid pudding…senile old fart.

  5. Kerry says:

Since Hulk Hogan & Eric Bischoff come into TNA they brought in RVD, Mr. Anderson, the Hardys & Ric Flair & put them in starring roles while the people who started out in TNA have mostly been in supporting roles & he wants to talk about building people up? Granted, Fortune are now seeing their time in the spotlight, but they were there before until Hogan was brought in & put himself in.

  6. Jay says:

I know where Hogan is coming from but it would take a lot more than that to bury Cena.

If he wants to talk about a charachter-squashing burial, let’s talk about how WWE buried Sheamus when they made him run away from Nexus, screaming out for Cena. Who’s idea was that?!? Sheamus was the man, the future of the company. and some f!!!ing idiot decides to treat him like that. And now he comes out to the ring dressed like a dick. WHAT THE F!!!

  7. B says:

Jay….there is someone else who got treated like trash! Now he is pretty much running s**t! Gotta pay your dues brother! DO you think Vinnie Mac thought Trips would be where he is today when he made him do a quickie job to Warrior?

  8. Z says:

I fail to see how one wrestler making fun of another wrestler while cutting a promo is going to bury them. And obviously Hogan doesn’t understand the fans or he would know it takes more than one comment to make the crowd chant “___ sucks” about a babyface.

  9. Matthew says:

I liked watching and hearing Hogan more as a father than a wrestler with political power.

  10. Funny how all of you are whining, but Hogan is spot on.

Rock isn’t staying, and burying the top star was absolute garbage.

  11. DeathNote81 says:

People chant “Cena sucks” anyway. That’s nothin’ new.

  12. Gene says:

First off, who in the blue hell cares what this old relic thinks? Hogan, do us all a favor and RETIRE… Go fade away because Hulkamania is dead. You’re all used up and done, so go into the light already.

  13. advo319 says:

Hogan, you’re one to talk about hogging spotlight, brother!

  14. Michele says:

How did he bury Cena? As far as I can see, Cena had some pretty good comebacks this past week and hello, its wrestling. That is what they do. Its a story. How can you build up to it and have the Rock do something explosive at WM without him being involved in a storyline. The Rock as the host is okay but nothing awe worthy. Rock going after Cena is making a lot of people say hey, maybe I’ll buy this WM after all (I know several people who stopped watching wrestling years ago and are not interested thanks to the Rock’s return, even though it is just for the day). Hogan doesn’t need to worry about WWE and Vince. Sure it could use some help but overall, they are doing fine.
