~ As previously announced here on the site, “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 3 semi-finalist Kalib Starnes (12-5-1) won for the third time in four outings, as he coaxed a tapout from Matt MacGrath with a rear-naked choke 3:14 into round two of their encounter on Friday in Canada. Starnes, 36, has now secured nine of his 12 career victories by submission. Starnes owns a career 2-3 record in the UFC.
~ UFC/Bellator lightweight veteran Diego Saraiva won on Saturday in Duluth, Georgia by submitting Joe Elmore with a second round armbar. The bout was the main event of Wild Bill’s Fight Night 33. The 28 year-old Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt broke 2 fight losing streak to improve to 19-10-1.
~ UFC veteran Ron Faircloth was TKO’d (Punches) by Marcus Vanttinen (19-2) just 1:43 into the first round on Monday in Helsinki, Finland. Held under the “Fight Festival” 29th offering, Faircloth dropped his record to 33-19. Faircloth’s only UFC bout at UFC 55 against Alessio Sakara was ruled a No-Contest after Faircloth accidently kicked Sakara in the groin.
~ Season-two featherweight tournament finalist Patricio “Pitbull” Freire (14-1 MMA, 2-1 BFC) has joined the field for Bellator Fighting Championships’ upcoming season-four tourney. Officials confirmed Freiere as the seventh confirmed participant for the eight-man tourney, which kicks off in March on MTV2. Freire suffered his first career loss in the finale of the season-two tourney, when he dropped a close split decision to current champ Joe Warren. The year’s tournament winner gets $100,000 in total pay and a shot at Warren’s belt.
~ UFC brass officially announced that Jose Aldo (18-1 MMA, 0-0 UFC) meets Mark “The Machine” Hominick (20-8 MMA, 3-0 UFC) for the UFC Featherweight Title at UFC 129: St-Pierre vs. Shields. UFC 129 takes place April 30 at Rogers Centre in Toronto. The bout is the co-main event.
