11/11/10 TNA Impact Recap (Night of the Immortals)

Nov 12, 2010 - by Jason Graening

Footage of the Turning Point pay-per-view where Immortal was victorious in all of their matches, which included a successful TNA World Championship title defense from Jeff Hardy against Matt Morgan. Immortal’s music then kicks off Impact as they make their way down to the ring with microphones and a trash can. Eric Bischoff starts things off by gloating over their wins at Turning Point while AJ Styles talks about firing Sabu. Styles goes on to say that he will be sending another member of EV2 home tonight when he cripples Stevie Richards.

Bischoff then introduces Jeff Hardy as the TNA World Champion comes down to the ring. Hardy talks about defeating Matt Morgan and how Turning Point was his coming out party. Bischoff then introduces Hulk Hogan as he slowly makes his way down to the ring. Hogan talks about taking care of the next big thing for Immortal and gives Ric Flair credit for holding this down for him while he was getting things done.

Hogan then says he has a surprise for Jeff Hardy as the lights go out and a new championship title is lowered from the rafters. Hogan presents the new belt to Hardy as the old TNA World Championship is tossed in the trash can as he says it represents the company that Dixie Carter used to run. The Pope’s music then interrupts Hogan as D’Angelo Dinero is seen walking around in the crowd. The Pope tells Bischoff that he will be getting revenge tonight for paying off his own family and says he will put him in a casket and push him off the stage.

Samoa Joe’s music then hits as he comes out from another part of the Impact Zone and he warns Immortal that the Pope isn’t the only thing they will have their hands full with. Joe calls out Jeff Jarrett and says that he will choke him out. RVD’s music hits as he also comes out by the announce team and says that everything became clear to him at Turning Point as EV2 is the same tight family they always were. RVD says the only person that could possibly turn on him was Jeff Hardy and says that he wants a World Championship rematch tonight.

Matt Morgan’s music then hits and says that he agrees with RVD in getting a rematch, but not before he gets a rematch first. Morgan says he exposed Hardy in the middle of the ring at Turning Point and says that he can do it all over again. Hogan says if they are all looking for a fight, then they will get it as he, Flair and Bischoff will discuss a battle plan before taking action.

After a commercial break we see Hogan, Bischoff and Flair talking in the office where they are discussing their battle plans. Hogan books a match with “Samoan” Joe taking on Gunner and Murphy, RVD taking on Kazarian and if RVD wins, he will be the #1 contender. Finally, Hogan books Matt Morgan in a match against Beer Money and Douglas Williams.

Robbie E. and Cookie are walking around the backstage area and Cookie tells the camera man to tell Taylor Wilde that even though she isn’t a wrestler, she knows how to fight, which brings us into the first match of the night.

Match 1: Jay Lethal & Taylor Wilde vs. Robbie E. & Cookie
Cookie refuses to participate in the match and stops halfway down the ramp. She finally does make it to the apron to get this match started as Jay Lethal begins working over Robbie E. with a series of chops before he tags in Taylor Wilde. Cookie has to get into the match but quickly tags Robbie back in and Lethal takes him down with a cross body block to pick up a near fall. Robbie briefly takes control of the match and spends too much time showboating and Lethal takes him out with the Lethal Combination. Cookie then causes a distraction as Robbie uses Cookie’s boot to knock out Lethal in the ring to pick up the pin fall for his team.

A video package highlighting Team 3D’s career and their final match against the Motorcity Machine Guns is aired. The two are then seen walking around in the backstage area as we will hear from the after a commercial break.

Team 3D’s music hits as they come out and spend time greeting the fans sitting around the ringside area. They finally make their way to the ring and the fans start up a “please don’t go” chant. Brother Ray gets on the microphone and gives the Motorcity Machine Guns credit for one hell of a match and says that he is proud of the fact that they helped make tag team wrestling mean something in TNA. He then says that after 15 years it is time to come to a close and thanks the fans. Brother Devon also thanks the fans for their years of support but it is time to move on and gives the fans one last ‘testify’ before the two hug each other but it is quickly soured when Ray nails Devon from behind.

Eric Bischoff is in his office yelling at three referees for making the mistake of assigning a young referee to officiate a huge match at Turning Point. Matt Morgan then walks in and stands up for the referee and asks Bischoff to let him officiate his handicap match later on tonight to let him redeem himself by doing his job. Bischoff agrees to it and tells him to go do his job.

Match 2: Gunner & Murphy vs. Samoa Joe (Handicap Match)
The match starts as Murphy and Gunner go right on the attack before the referee finally gets Murphy to go out on the apron to make it a one-on-one match. Joe is then easily able to take care of them both and puts the match away with a muscle buster on Murphy for the pin fall. Gunner then nails Joe from behind after the match and Joe easily beats him down and takes him out with the rear naked choke.

Jeff Jarrett then slides in to the ring and nails Joe in the back of the head with a nightstick. It then becomes a 3-on-1 attack as Jarrett locks Joe in an ankle lock. Kurt Angle then comes out from the crowd and breaks up the attack before chasing out of the ring as he hightails it up the entrance ramp. The two then stare each other down as Angle helps Joe to his feet.

We head into the office where Flair, Bischoff and Hogan are irate over the fact that Samoa Joe won the match and Kurt Angle returned to the Impact Zone. Bischoff then orders Abyss to follow him as he is going to take care of the problem.

Eric Bischoff is in the restroom waiting for Abyss to finish up and he is laid out by the Pope. D’Angelo Dinero then takes out Abyss before grabbing Bischoff and dragging him out of the room.

Match 3: Kazarian vs. Rob Van Dam
During the match, Mike Tenay talks about EV2 losing members with Sabu being fired at Turning Point and Rhino’s contract expiring without being resigned. Back to the action, RVD monkey flips Kazarian a few times before working him over with some spin kicks. Kazarian then heads to the top rope and ends up taking out both RVD and Earl Hebner with a cross body block. With the referee out, Rhino comes down to the ring and gores RVD. Kazarian then covers RVD and picks up the slow pin fall.

Tommy Dreamer comes out to try to make sense out of what just happened and stops Rhino from nailing RVD with a steel chair. Rhino instead nails Dreamer in the back with the chair before finally leaving the ring.

We head to the back to see the Pope dragging Eric Bischoff around and Bischoff apologizes and says he is taking things too far. Dinero begins putting his gear on Bischoff before dragging him off some more. Back in the office, Abyss is apologizing for losing Bischoff and Hulk Hogan orders him to go find him and not to come back unless he finds him.

Match 4: AJ Styles vs. Stevie Richards (TNA Television Championship)
Stevie Richards attacks AJ Styles on the entrance ramp before this match officially starts. Richards is seen rolling Styles into the ring as we head into a commercial break. We return to the match to see Styles finally turn the tide of the match into his favor and wears Richards down with a headlock. Styles picks up a near fall after hitting a dropkick but Richards takes control of the match after hitting a couple of clotheslines and picks up a near fall of his own after hitting a neckbreaker. Richards then connects with a Stevie-kick but Styles is able to get his foot on the rope to break the pin attempt. Styles then counters out of a powerbomb and hits an awkward Styles Clash to pick up the pin fall and retain the Television Championship.

The Pope is still dragging Eric Bischoff around and puts him in his casket before rolling it away as we head into a commercial break. After the break we see Pope wheeling the casket into the Impact Zone where he is nailed from behind by Abyss. The Pope fights back as Bischoff climbs out of the casket and nails the Pope with a low blow. Abyss the puts the Pope in the casket as he and Bischoff wheel the casket through the side of the stage.

Match 5: Beer Money & Douglas Williams vs. Matt Morgan
The match starts and Morgan is able to hold his own against all three of them in the opening moments. The numbers game catches up with him, though, as Beer Money and Williams take turns focusing on Morgan’s leg and knee. James Storm then locks Morgan in a figure four but Morgan is able to reverse the hold. Storm breaks the hold as he tags in Robert Roode as Eric Bischoff joins the announce team.

Bischoff says he has had it with the lack of respect that he has gotten tonight. Bischoff says that if Morgan does not win this match he will never get a shot at Jeff Hardy for the TNA World Championship. Back to the match, Roode puts Morgan in a Boston crab and tags in Williams. Morgan finally turns the tide of the match and holds his own against the three of them as Ric Flair hops on the apron and tries to get involved but Morgan takes him out with a single punch that knocks him down to the floor.

Morgan then takes Williams down with a fallaway slam as Beer Money and Ric Flair head up the entrance ramp. Morgan notices this and hits Williams with the Carbon Footprint to pick up the pin fall and become the #1 contender for the TNA World Championship. Jeff Hardy then appears on the big screen and congratulates Morgan on his victory as Hardy sneaks up from behind him and attacks Morgan before hitting the Twist of Hate and a Swanton Bomb. Hardy then raises his new championship belt above his head as Impact comes to a close.
