Today’s History Lesson—September 13th

9/13/1993—The Quebecers defeat the Steiner Brothers, to win the WWF World Tag Team Championship. This match was held under Province of Quebec rules, meaning the title could change hands if there was a disqualification. The Steiner brothers used a hockey stick during the match, got DQ’d, and lost the titles.

9/13/1998—highlights from 1998 WCW “Fall Brawl”
-Chris Jericho defeats Fake Goldberg, to retain the World Television Championship.
-Juventud Guerrara defeats Silver King, to retain the Cruiserweight Championship.
-DDP wins the WarGames match, pinning Stevie Ray, and earns a World Heavyweight Championship match at “Halloween Havoc.”

9/13/1999—Chris Benoit defeats Rick Steiner, to win the WCW World Television Championship.

9/13/2001—WWF airs a live “Smackdown” from Houston, just two days after the 9/11 terrorist attacks. It was the first major event to be held after 9/11, and is the #1 moment on the “Best of Smackdown” DVD, released last year. The live “Smackdown” does a 3.6 TV rating on UPN.

9/13/2009—highlights from WWE “Breaking Point”
-Kofi Kingston defeats The Miz, to retain the United States Championship.
-Christian defeats William Regal, to retain the ECW Championship.
-Chris Jericho / Big Show defeat MVP / Mark Henry, to retain the Unified Tag Team Championship.
-John Cena defeats Randy Orton, to win the WWE Championship.
-CM Punk defeats Undertaker, to retain the World Heavyweight Championship. Undertaker had originally won this match, after applying his Hell’s Gate move on Punk. Smackdown GM Teddy Long came out and restarted the match, claiming the Hell’s Gate hold was illegal. After the match was restarted, CM Punk applied the Anaconda Vise, and the referee called for the bell, even though Undertaker never tapped out.

WWE Champion Sheamus was on 96.5 WFTK (96Rock) in Cincinnati, talking about tonight’s Monday Night Raw.
