WWE to unify all championships?

- The Figure Four Wrestling newsletter is reporting that as of now there are plans to unify all the WWE titles between now and Wrestlemania. We found out on Raw last night that the Divas and Women’s titles will unified at Night of Champions. There are also plans to unify the IC and U.S. titles as well as the WWE and World Titles. As always plans can change but this was the direction as of last night.

This could be a good thing. Maybe they’re finally going to end the brand extension. Hooray for championships meaning something again!

    Sounds good.

I don’t know about all of you but I liked this idea of the unified champion. Was really cool…but then they brought out the world and wwe titles which was weird because the WWE title WAS the undisputed title so the world title was lesseR? i don’t know it got weird.

I’m just wishing they would bring back tag team wrestling if they’re going to have tag team belts

OK, 1st, love the idea of uniting the titles, finally. Womens and Divas title, that Divas one shouldnt have existed in the 1st place. Heres my problem, or question, whatever u wanna call it. WWE and World titles together make the Undisputed WWE Champion, or WWE Heavyweight Champion. Womens title stays the same, as do the tag titles. What will they name the unified US and Intercontinental titles? Will they keep the Intercontinental name, or use a different one, like the WWE International Champion, for example?

  5. Chris says:

I agree with unifying the tag and women’s titles, simply because the WWE doesn’t focus any attention on them, nor do they have a viable depth chart for either division.

Unifying the WWE and World title makes sense. However, it’s a poor idea to unify the US and IC belt. There is an overall large talent pool, and having two non world singles titles would make sense as to see how each wrestler is accepted by the WWE crowd as a champion. But then again, I fully expect hell to freeze over, the Cubs win the World Series, and the Clippers to be the dominating basktetball team in LA before the WWE ever does anything that makes long term sense.

I think the fact that they are considering unifying all titles is awesome. I told a buddy of mine that this would happen a couple of years ago. You finally will see the WWE titles that should be and not keep around the WCW titles. Although it would be nice to see something like a TV title to be there. That was the shiz in WCW because it was the one title that was a stepping stone to the top 2 titles in wrestling. And by unifying the WWE title and world title, we should get rid of the gay ass spinner.

  7. Joey Knuckles says:

Establish a WWE RAW/SmackDown “Television” Championship.

  8. Kevin says:

I like the idea of having one of each title. I was also thinking that it would be cool to have the Champ face one guy from one brand to defend to and if the champ loses to someone on raw the ex-champ goes to raw or vice versa. That would give you a bit of rotation in the rosters as well.

  9. Ed says:

I have never been a fan of 2 world championships. I have no problem with the Inter & USA title. There should only be one Divas title. There does need to be more tag teams. I’m all for a TV title, during WCW they were some of the best matches during the promotion since it had to be defended every time WCW aired on TV.

  10. Trivia247 says:

Titles are only valuable when they are treated valuable or they specifically address a particular type of wrestling class or such.

Cruiserweight title, allows smaller wrestlers to compete with their own weight class for a championship, instead of either treated as jobbers to be fed to larger wrestlers or be unrealistic champions of higher weight titles..

Hardcore title: Eh ok was only there because of the rise of ECW popularity in the latter 90s…though I think alot of interesting matches and wrestlers came and went…its past its prime and unnecessary.

European Title: Seem to be a 3rd tier belt (The WWE Answer to the NWA trademarked “TV” title) It was a falicacy that it represented Europe, because the WWE at no time of the belt’s run had more than two or three wrestlers whom were born or billed in Europe at one time. so the belt is suppose to represent europe when majority of its winners was not european.

US title in the WCW/NWA had the 2nd tier quality to it like the IC belt…but the US belt really only represents the continental united states….it would be like a regional title like say the Texas championship or whatever….

Only the Intercontinental championship has a qualifications as a 2nd tier near top title belt….the very name says its not only represents the US but US, Canada, Mexico, the whole of the continent. From this belt there should be no where else to go but Up.

you should only have many belts if you do have an brand extension, or alot of roster to showcase…… after nearly ten years of the WWE having an influx of talent due to the buying out of the former WCW contracts, the roster is now down to competive but not overwhelming levels the brands can be refused to one again…. with the champions on all the shows again.

I like the idea of unifying the two main titles. I think a lot of this has to do with the lack of main event talent than anything else. The Undertaker is most likely shutting it down at some point soon and face it the guy held that title a lot and deservedly so. But lately there hasn’t been any superstar that could carry that title. With Edge coming back from injury with less, well edge. And nobody else really stepping up. But I think they could keep both Intercontinental and United States titles because I think there is more than enough talent to go around to compete for those belts. Yet it wouldn’t be bad to have the intercontinental championship return to it’s former prestige and maybe be the top title on smackdown? And this all would make room to add a cruiserweight or tv title a year or two into the future.

  12. Rex Anderson says:

Ahh damn here we go again.

  13. Rory says:

I love the idea, but please don’t unify the United States and Intercontinental Championships. Having two non-world titles will be a good thing as long as they are used properly. Just having one world title will prevent the same feud over and over month after month. Look at the feuds they are having now. If they are going to make new belts please at least make them look better then the Tag-Team belts.

  14. Steve says:

If anything they could do it in 2 different ways:

    1) They unify all the titles and have 4 main titles (World, IC/US, Tag, and Womens)thus ending the brands in WWE.

    2) They unify the the World and Womens titles, and leave the IC and US as the "main" titles on each brand. The World, Women’s and Tag travel to both shows, and each brand has their top singles title (IC and US). Like someone mentioned above, maybe they can create a TV title for each brand so at least the lower card wrestlers have something to work for.

Unless WWE sees another way (which if they do it will be something that makes no sense to us fans, but all the sense in the world to them) to do this, then that would be a 3rd option

  15. IronHyde says:

Sounds good, as far as the main event titles & the Diva division… though, I’m not too fond of unifying the US & IC… AGAIN! Whatever they do, I hope they make it last.

  16. Eric says:

TWell I always enjoyed being the odd ball out of the group. Here it goes…

I used to like the idea of one top Champion, back when the WWE was the WWF and of course WCW was around. Times have changed and wrestling isn’t like it used to be especially when you have a roster as big as the WWE does. Let’s be honest whatever top title is on Smackdown doesn’t mean much to the top Raw title, which is mainly the WWE Championship. I feel the World title is almost like the intercontinental championship except with more exposure and airtime.
Does anyone really think that Rey Mysterio, CM Punk, Jeff Hardy, and even Kane would be the top champion in the WWE without another champion to represent the company? I really don’t think so. I also feel the World title will give guys like John Morrison(which I still don’t get why miz is getting the push now), R Truth, Drew Mac, and even jokes like Christian and Matt Hardy a chance to be on top and be able to be called a world Champion.

Look at the entire picture, once the Nexus angle is over, Cena will go back to holding the title, then losing the title, just to win it back at the very next ppv. Also let’s not forget about Mr. Stephanie McMahon. Triple H will return soon and if Cena isn’t champion, he will be.

If the WWE unifies the WWE and World titles you will never see the up and coming guys, including guys like the Miz be the sole champion of the company.

  17. Jeff says:

Bad idea to unify the WWE and World Heavyweight belts. The main event scenes are already over-crowded for both brands, can you imagine how bad it would be if EVERY main-eventer we have now is going for just one belt? And that’s not even including the up-and-comers who WWE NEEDS to elevate in order for them to have competitors that people can believe in 5-10 years down the road.

People like Wade Barrett and Evan Bourne are already having problems breaking the glass ceiling because of WWE forcing the same old people (Cena, Orton, Edge, Jericho, soon to be Triple H too) to compete in the main event. Once you add in Undertaker, Kane, and Rey to the mix you can say goodbye to WWE giving people like Drew McIntyre and John Morrison legit chances to be in the main event scene.

People will eventually get burnt out on those ‘tried and true’ main eventers, and by then the WWE won’t have done a good enough job to make up get behind the new people, so they’ll falter. And the WWE will turn to those same old people to get them out of their rut, temporarily. Remind you of any other company? It starts with a W and ends with a CW.

  18. Marlon says:

i have been hoping for the brands to come back together, maybe this is the start. getting rid of the spinner belt would be great! IC/US should remain apart just to give more belts. bring back the cruiser/TV titles also. the creative team will have some work to do, shouldn’t be any long title reigns with one title to pass around to atleast 10 maineventers plus the like of miz, barrett, etc., who are coming up big in the business. looking forward to see how they pull this off if its going to happen…

  19. John says:

How about having the title runs go for months (2-4) instead of weeks? Don’t make it so easy to win the belt all the time.

  20. Mark says:

I would be careful about getting rid of too many belts…matches are more interesting when there’s “something on the line” otherwise it’s just another match. If the wwe is pushing so hard to have to separate entities (Smackdown and Raw) Then why not have a respective champ of each brand and name them as such. You would have the champion of Smackdown and the Champion of Raw. What’s the problem?

  21. James says:

I think that WWE should just leave some belts alone like US/ IC & the two main roster titles. The women’s champion could be done like the tag team titles defended on both brands. Just like the tag team divison the women’s divison is not big I think in Vince McMahon’s mind. Plus what would happen to the PPV WWE Night Of Champions because if there are only four belts why have 4 matches on the PPV & thats it. I think that Vince McMahon will change his mind but still unify the women’s belts. The other four belts are stupid to unify.
