~ UFC 118 drew 15,575 attendees for a solid $3 million gate, UFC president Dana White announced in the night’s post-fight press conference. The event, which took place Saturday, was hosted by Boston’s TD Garden and marked the UFC’s debut in the state of Massachusetts. Official figures will be made available in the coming weeks. The gate total ranks just seventh in 2010 and trails every show from UFC 111 to UFC 116, which all topped the $3 million benchmark.
~ PRIDE/UFC veteran Wanderlei Silva will continue his rehabilitation onÃƒâ€š his surgically repaired right knee so it is unlikely he will fight again this year. Its expected he will return in February or March of next year. Silva, 34, will continue to compete in the middleweight division.
~ The fight card for Thursday’s Bellator 27 event is set with 10 bouts, four of which are part of the night’s FOX Sports Net-televised main card. The organization recently announced a champion Joe Soto (9-0 MMA, 4-0 BFC) vs. Joe Warren (5-1 MMA, 3-0 BFC) featherweight title fight and two opening-round bantamweight-tourney bouts. A third bantamweight-tourney bout between Bryan Goldsby (15-7 MMA, 1-0 BFC) and Ed West (13-4 MMA, 0-0 BFC) is the fourth and final addition to the televised card. Bellator 27 takes place this Thursday, Sept. 2, at the Majestic Theatre in San Antonio. Other tourney bouts of Zach Makovsky (9-2 MMA, 1-0 BFC) vs. Nick Mamalis (10-4 MMA, 2-0 BFC) and Ulysses Gomez (6-1 MMA, 0-0 BFC) vs. Travis Reddinger (14-2 MMA, 0-0 BFC).
~ Bellator lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez (20-2 MMA, 4-0 BFC) will fight in his hometown and meet UFC veteran Roger Huerta (21-4-1 MMA, 1-1 BFC) in a non-title fight at Bellator 33. The event takes place Oct. 21 at the 10,000-seat Liacouras Center on the campus of Temple University in Philadelphia, and the night’s main card airs live on FOX Sports Net.
