~ Joe Lauzon, Nate Diaz and Marcus Davis earned $60,000 fight-night bonuses for their performances at Saturday’s UFC 118 event. Lauzon picked up the “Submission of the Night” bonus, and Diaz and Davis earned “Fight of the Night” honors. The usual “Knockout of the Night” bonus wasn’t awarded since the the event featured no KO victories.
~ The following was said by UFC President Dana White concerning boxers fighting in the UFC. ”It’s unfair to bring a guy in with one discipline, no matter if he’s trained for eight or nine months. I wasn’t the guy going out there and trying to badmouth boxing and take boxing down and hurt the sport of boxing. James Toney picked a fight, and he got one.
“I don’t see [other boxers] ever doing that, coming out and whatever. James Toney is the guy that’s crazy enough to come out and do this. He picked a fight, he got one, and we won’t be doing any more boxing.” He made this statement at the UFC 118 post-fight press conference.
~ IFL veteran Devin Cole will face Aaron Rosa (14-3) in a heavyweight bout to complete the Shark Fights 13 card set for Amarillo, Texas on pay-per-view. The event occurs on September 11.
~ A lingering knee injury has forced Todd Duffee (6-1 MMA, 1-1 UFC) to withdraw from a bout with Jon Madsen (6-0 MMA, 3-0 UFC) at UFC 121: Lesnar vs. Velasquez. A new opponent is sought for Madsen. The event airs on pay-per-view on October 23.
