Today’s History Lesson—August 8th

8/8/1961—Hard Boiled Haggerty and Gene Kiniski vacate the AWA World Tag Team Championship after splitting up as a tag team. Haggerty had tried to help Kiniski win a cage match against Verne Gagne and his attempt to help his partner backfired.

8/8/1963—Verne Gagne defeats Fritz von Erich, to win the AWA World Heavyweight Championship.

8/8/1964—Don Manoukian defeats Pampero Firpo, to win the NWA Pacific Northwest Heavyweight Championship.

8/8/1979—Ric Flair and Blackjack Mulligan become the new NWA World Tag Team Champions, defeating Paul Jones and Baron von Raschke.

8/8/1981—Wahoo McDaniel defeats Roddy Piper, to win the NWA United States Heavyweight Championship.

8/8/1993—Tito Santana wins the ECW World Heavyweight Championshp, defeating Don Muraco.

8/8/1998—highlights from 1998 WCW “Road Wild”
-Rey Mysterio, Jr. defeats Psychosis, to become number one contender for Cruiserweight Championship.
-Juventud Guerrera defeats Chris Jericho, to win the WCW Cruiserweight Championship (Dean Malenko was special guest referee).
-Goldberg wins a Battle Royal.
-DDP and Jay Leno defeat Hollywood Hogan and Eric Bischoff.
